The character name "Emmanuel Goldstein" is taken from George Orwell's novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four". It is also used as a pseudonym by Eric Corley, who publishes the magazine "2600, The Hacker Quarterly". Corley was a consultant for this film.

Goofs:

Continuity: When Dade gets tricked into going to see the 'Pool' on the roof of the school, right after he walks out of the door, he turns back to the door and turns the door handle completely. In the next shot, he can barely wiggle it because it's locked.

For some ungodly reason, I friggin' love this movie

First off, it's important to note that this movie really isn't all that good. The acting is fun but has no real worth, the story is juvenile, and the "Hacking" depicted in the movie is unrealistic. Now that that's out of the way, let me say that I absolutely love this movie. It was introduced to me during middle school, and the hardcore, stylish way it depicts the computer underground culture is enchanting. I'm in college (majoring in filmmaking no less) now, and I still watch this picture about once a month. Visually the movie is fantastic, especially in terms of costume design. The characters are, for lack of a better word, extremely cool. I want to be them. Any of them. All of them at once. The film has that sort of charm and magnetism. I'd recommend watching this movie with as many grains of salt as you have handy, because under close scrutiny the luster fades, but when viewed with your gut feelings as your guide, it's unbeatable.
