I just happened to catch this movie on Fox Family and initially intended to watch until the quintessential scene where an old lady covered with bees runs around frantically with arms flailing in true TV dramatic style. However I was captivated to stay just by the sheer fun of this movies' unselfaware badness. This is a great comedy and if the makers of this movie were even a tad less sincere it would never work.
Many people complain that bad movies that are also 'party movies' have long been extinct with the fall of the Drive-In. However that is not the case. These movies are still being made and the exist on Cable. This is extremely true with Cable movies that are based on real life disasters. I'm not even sure this is a made for TV movie however it definetly has that feel to it. From the Hero-playing father,to the stereotypical suburban mother, the no-nothing daughters, the son with the tag along bad influence friend, and my favorite; the prophetic hippie who is also a radical bee expert with the accent that takes directly off of Jack Nicholson in Easy Rider, this movie comes off with more hilarity than most comedies hitting the big screen these days. The only surprising thing to me is the fact that people actually come and review this as an actual piece of film. Those that review this movie taken in it's literal sense only make themselves appear stupider than this movie is at face value. But those of us with a wry sense of humor can take this movie for what it really is and not what it's supposed to be; a new piece of camp film that will only start to be appreciated a few decades down the line when the idiots finally catch on.
