Sex & Nudity

A man thrusts behind a woman. On two occassions, a man directs the head of a woman into his lap. There is a brief full rear view nudity shot of a woman; one of the main characters is an ex-prostitute (There is very little talk of it however). Multiple very passionate kissing scenes. There is a brief scene of a woman in her undergarments, as well as a scene where bikini-clad women wander in the background. There are very brief, distant shots of scaintly-clad dancers. A woman cheats on her husband.

Two heavily injured men are stripped of their clothing (We see them in their undergarments). A woman walks past the screen in undergarments and is shown for a few seconds.

Violence & Gore

Director Martin Scorsese is notorious for his depictions of gangster-life violence and this is no exception; ther are numerous close-up, graphic, and bloody images of beatings and gunshots.

A man has his hand smashed several times with a hammer; we see the bloody detail.

Gruesome aftermaths of mob related killings.

A woman is shot in the head several times; with graphic detail.

Two men are violently executed by gunshot to the heads; their bodies fall into a dug up hole.

A group of men storms into a bar and kills several people.

In two scenes Nicky violently beats two people with a telephone.

A bloodied and beat up man is dragged through a warehouse where he is tortured by having his head crushed in a vise; eventually his eye bulges out out; with graphic detail.

A man is stabbed repeatedly in the neck with a pen; we see blood squirt out, he is then kicked violently over and over while on the ground.

A group of gangsters riddles a house with gunfire.

Two policemen shoot a man dead.

Domestic violence.

Two men are beaten violently with baseball bats (with very gory detail) and buried alive.

A woman dies from a drug overdose.

Several men beat up a pimp (with bloody results).

A car explodes, but the driver gets out alive.

Profanity

Around a record 422 uses of the word "fuck" and its derivatives, as well as many sexually graphic/scatological terms. Obscenities such as "jag-off" and "cocksucker" are used multiple time throughout the course of the film. Milder obscenities ("Damn", "son of a bitch", "bastard" etc.) are also frequently used. There are multiple racial slurs and terms of deity also used. One use of the word "cunt".

The main character smokes cigarettes in almost every scene. There are multiple scenes of characters drinking wine and various other forms of alcohol.Depictions of characters doing cocaine, one of a mother in front of her young child. Numerous characters are shown heavily intoxicated, drugged, and under the influence of various forms of substances.

Several extremely graphic scenes of violence, including an extended death sequence where two characters are beaten with baseball bats before being buried alive.

I would say the cornfield scene is one of the most graphic, disturbing, and emotionally harrowing scene in film history.

The "eyeball" scene is also very brutal and not for the easily disturbed.
