Trivia:
This film liberally borrows gags, situations, set-ups, costumes, and plots from many of the shorts that made up the original Our Gang (Little Rascals) movie series. Some examples: - Hook and Ladder (1932): The gang as firefighters - Hi'-Neighbor! (1934): Building the go-cart (a fire engine in the original), knocking over the pedestrian on the sidewalk. - Anniversary Trouble (1935): The "hi/high-sign" (the only short in which it is prominently featured) - Hearts Are Thumps (1937): The He-Man Woman Haters Club, the gang spiking Alfalfa & Darla's lunch, Alfalfa's "bubble song." - Rushin' Ballet (1937): Alfalfa and Spanky in drag at a ballet recital. The costumes are exact duplicates of the originals. - Mail and Female (1937): (once again) The He-Man Woman Haters Club, the love note, "1st Messenger" Buckwheat, and "2nd Messenger" Porky. - Auto Antics (1939): The go-cart race - Three Smart Guys (1943): Buckwheat and Porky catching one another's fishing hook and trying to (unknowingly) reel each other in.

Penelope Spheeris directed this great film.
The story has several little plots, like the club burning down and them trying to raise money to fix it up, Alfalfa's love with Darla, and winning a race. In a regular movie, this wouldn't really be good for film because it tries to fit too much in only 90 minutes but for a movie like this, they are really able to combine all those elements, i don't know why, kids movies (for some reason) are able to do so much more then the pg-13-R rated movies.
The story really does stay loyal to the original show but they've updated it to fit the 1990's. It's actually a pretty funny movie, i loved the club setting on fire and spanky with the fire hose, that always makes me laugh. It really is meant for kids because i think adults would really start to fall asleep with this movie because it is really childish (for obvious reasons)
Overall, a funny, friendly, and harmless movie that really does fit the show.
