Trivia:

John Gordon, who played broadcaster Wally Holland, is the real-life voice of the Minnesota Twins. While his use of silly statistics (e.g. batting average against left handed pitchers faced at home for the first time in the last month of the season) is a parody, he did use his trademark home run call when he said "Touch 'em all, Mickey Scales!"

Goofs:

Factual errors: When Billy names himself manager this would not be allowed by the league. Major League Baseball rules prohibits managers and players from owning shares of their teams unless approved by the commissioner. This rule was enforced on May 11, 1977 when Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner suspended the current manager, Dave Bristol, and took over as manager for one game. With Billy's extensive baseball knowledge he should have known this and it would have been stopped by the league if he tried to take over.

It's really more than just a kids movie...

I really think this movie was done exceptionally well. The humor wasn't just the standard nose-picking, mud-throwing, loud-farting jokes that are so standard in kids movies. This movie was actually well written! I laughed the whole way through it, it's really too bad it gets put in the same class with movies like Rookie of the Year and The Big Green. It's so much more sophisticated (strange word to use to describe a kids movie...I know) as far as the writing style and humor goes than any of those other movies were. I really think that adults may enjoy this movie more than kids, because kids may not get all the jokes. It's disappointing that it will never be seen by so many because of the type of movie that it is and the way it was marketed.
