The Lovely Bones International Trailer: Sadly, No New Footage

4 hours ago | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

I keep looking for something that will sell me on The Lovely Bones. Once upon a time, Peter Jackson's name would have been enough. It's not that King Kong changed that, but between the problems with Kong and the fact that the story in this new film doesn't grab me (based on what I know about it) I'm in a 'wait and see' holding pattern. More problematic is that the current Us trailer for his new film actively turned me off. I see why people liked it, but the tone felt like an unsuccessful bid to get back to the feeling of Heavenly Creatures. So I'm watching for each new batch of footage with some anticipation. Now there's a new French trailer for the film, but all it really does is replicate the long Us version in a shorter time frame. It is weird, that with the film set »

Kate Winslet 'worth £60m' to UK economy

9 November 2009 4:12 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

UK Film Council estimates actor's value based on factors including her salary as well as her films' effect on British tourism and UK-based film production

She has been appraised and audited and metaphorically slapped with a price tag. It's official: Kate Winslet, the Oscar-winning star of The Reader, is worth a grand total of £60m to the British economy.

Winslet, 34, is the first actor to be audited in a bold new venture by the UK Film Council, designed to calculate the exact value of the industry's stars. Jokingly referred to as the "Winslet algorithm", it bases its findings on a number of factors, from Winslet's basic salary through to the "general promotional effect" that her films have on British tourism.

The formula calculated that the actor had earned £20m from her acting roles since starring in Sense and Sensibility back in 1995. However, it also credits her stardom as a key »

"Cracks" reveals a disturbing tale of boarding school obsession

29 October 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

If you’ve been waiting anxiously to catch your first glimpse of repression, lust and Eva Green in an all-girls boarding school drama Cracks, wait no more. The first poster and trailer for the new film were released this week. While it looks gorgeous, the tagline certainly raises an eyebrow: “Innocence isn’t lost. It’s taken.” Uh-oh.

Eva stars as the popular, enigmatic Miss G, a teacher and diving coach at an elite English boarding school during the summer of 1934 who is adored by her students. Previous reports about the film has raised hopes a lesbian relationship, but the trailer suggests something more sinister.

The trailer brings to mind Picnic at Hanging Rock mixed with Loving Annabelle and a healthy dash of Heavenly Creatures and Lord of the Flies thrown in for good measure. So when Eva said that the story was “"little taboo” earlier, she really wasn’t kidding. »

Lovely Bones: Cynical Awards Fodder Or Box Office Gold?

14 October 2009 10:04 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

The Lovely Bones has been a decade-long project: traversing continents; switching directors; growing in budget; Ryan Gosling fired; Mark Wahlberg hired; delayed for almost a year. Alarm bells start to ring. Despite all the rumours and gossip-mongering Peter Jackson’s latest feature has been, rather cynically, held back for “awards season”. In other words, the studio is unsure of how its product is going to play at the box office, so is hoping critical praise might help.

What started off as a Film Four production with Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsey has turned into an effects-laden, multi-million dollar behemoth. The trailer hit the internet in August and instantly recalled fellow Kiwi filmmaker Vincent Ward’s “beautiful disaster” What Dreams May Come. The similarities in tone and imagery are striking (dodgy wigs included).

The inexorable rise of Peter Jackson appears utterly incongruous given his origins in low budget splatter-horror. But is it? »

Official Poster Debuts for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones

8 October 2009 12:09 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Paramount has debuted the first official (teaser?) poster for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones on Yahoo. This highly anticipated adaptation stars Saoirse Ronan, Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, and Stanley Tucci. Now this is a beautiful poster! But then again, I wouldn't expect anything less from Peter Jackson. I love the beautiful pastel colors, the lack of floating faces, a simple image with a tree and a girl running. Simple, but effective. I'm still very excited to see this movie, I've got high hopes for it, and I don't expect to be let down. I'm sure we'll see another trailer in the next few months as well. Take a look below! If you haven't seen the first official trailer for The Lovely Bones yet, you can still watch it online right here. The Lovely Bones is directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Peter Jackson, of Heavenly Creatures, The Frighteners, »

Behind the Scenes Featurette of ‘The Lovely Bones’

10 August 2009 7:27 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Peter Jackson is a busy man lately. In addition to appearing at Comic-Con for the first time ever to promote District 9 (the sci-fi film he produced which premieres this Friday), Jackson has been ramping up promotions for his own film, an adaptation of the Alice Sebold’s novel The Lovely Bones.

Last week, Screen Rant shared the first official trailer for The Lovely Bones, which, while a bit heavy on spoilers, showed enough potential to merit some early Academy Award chatter. Now, we have even more footage of The Lovely Bones thanks to a behind the scenes featurette from Yahoo.

In the featurette, Jackson discusses his attraction to the source material, his vision for the film, and casting Saoirse Ronan as the lead character. It also features interviews with some of the film’s cast, including Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, and Stanley Tucci. Check out the featurette below. For an HD version, »

First Trailer Arrives For Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones

5 August 2009 5:10 PM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Ah, a guy spends a day in meetings and look at what happens ... Peter Jackson goes and releases the trailer for his long-awaited film adaptation of Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones.  Expected by most - myself included - to be a return of sorts to the more intimate style of film making that Jackson employed with Heavenly Creatures, Bones has been a long time coming now, delayed first by some casting issues - Ryan Gosling was initially cast and then replaced by Mark Wahlberg - and a very lengthy post-production process but the end is finally near.  The story of a murdered girl as told by the girl herself after her death, The Lovely Bones will have been a tough nut to crack but the trailer certainly looks as though Jackson’s done it.

I didn't bother reading any of the premature Lovely Bones posts yesterday because I find the idea of a teaser for a trailer to be quite silly. Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones Trailer

5 August 2009 6:16 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

After much anticipation, the first official trailer for Peter Jackson's next movie The Lovely Bones has finally hit the web this week over at Apple.com [1]. Based on the 2002 novel by Alice Sebold, it's the fictional story of a 14-year-old girl who is raped and murdered in 1973, and watches from heaven as her parents and family deal with their grief and search for justice. The movie has been in production since October 2007, which seems like a long time for your basic thriller/mystery, and this is partially because the movie's release date was pushed back later in the year due to its Oscar potential. One of the other reasons why the movie was delayed, and one of the things that makes the movie unique is the vision of heaven that Peter Jackson and the folks at Weta have brought to life on screen. While the idea sounded a bit cheesy to me, »

Must Watch: Trailer for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones

5 August 2009 1:30 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Paramount has debuted the trailer for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones starring Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, and Stanley Tucci. The somewhat controversial story centers on a young girl who has been murdered that watches over her family, and her killer, from heaven. This looks like a very interesting mix of beautiful heavenly imagery and an emotional drama about the loss of a loved one. I still think this looks phenomenal, but I guess that all just threw me off a bit at first. It reminded me of the trippy imagination scenes in Terry Gilliam's Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Anyway, watch it below! Trailer for Peter Jackson's 'The Lovely Bones'

It's not a full-on horror film, but is from the director of "Dead Alive." Here is the trailer for Peter Jackson's upcoming flick "The Lovely Bones." Directed by Peter Jackson and starring Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli, Saoirse Ronan, "The Lovely Bones" hits theaters December 11. It seems to have some shades of Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures" and the forgotten classic "Paperhouse," if you ask me. . . . . »

Lovely Bones Trailer Online

4 August 2009 11:48 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Following yesterday's Entertainment Tonight trailer for the trailer, the full trailer for The Lovely Bones, Peter Jackson's adaptation of Alice Sebold's bestselling novel, is now available for your perusal at Apple. There are shades of What Dreams May Come and Paperhouse in the visualisation of Susie Salmon's own personal Heaven, and the emphasis on standard amateur sleuthing might ring alarm bells for those who've read the novel and were expecting Jackson to come up with Heavenly Creatures Part 2. But the film is a potentially tough sell, given that its source begins with the rape, murder and dismemberment of a teenage girl. If the trailer turns out to be slightly disingenuous, you can hardly blame the marketing people. This film will not be Nancy Drew in the Afterlife, we promise. And there's no disguising the awesomeness of the cast: Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, Rose McIver, Atonement's Saoirse Ronan, »

'The Lovely Bones' Has a Trailer

4 August 2009 9:10 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

From what I’ve seen, The Lovely Bones looks like a cross between What Dreams May Come and Ghost, albeit from the director of Heavenly Creatures and The Lord of the Rings films. Frankly, after a decade-spanning run of genre movies, it’s good (and somewhat jarring) to see Jackson’s latest partially set in a universe of cars, high school and Vogue magazine.

That’s only partially, of course. Based on the Alice Sebold bestseller, The Lovely Bones tells the story of Susie Salmon, a young girl who is raped and murdered in 1973. The movie follows her to Heaven, where she is able to watch her loved ones — including her parents, grandmother and friends — grieve for her. She also watches as the man who took her life, George Harvey, escapes capture.

Even if Jackson’s vision of the afterlife looks too CGI-oriented at times, the first half of the preview hooks us. »

Bright Star Trailer

22 July 2009 5:51 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

It's here.

Trailer voiceovers always sound like somebody is reading a children's book aloud, straining for light short story affect or blustery novelistic import. This one falls somewhere inbetween... light novella import? In truth I wish trailers wouldn't have them at all... I always want to just snatch the book from the disembodied voice to look at the pictures for myself.

And what pictures.

It's way too soon to call anybody a lock for Oscar anything (there's always much competition) but certainly the visuals of Bright Star will be talked up later in the year. Can Greg Fraiser, a fairly new cinematographer with mostly shorts to his name (including one for Jane Campion "The Water Diary"), compete with the well known names vying for a cinematography nomination? Can costume designer Janet Patterson (Peter Pan, Oscar and Lucinda), who has been nearly as elusive as Jane Campion since the 90s be nominated again? »

Midway Point: Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2009: #9. The Lovely Bones

- #9. The Lovely Bones Director: Peter Jackson Writer(s): Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa BoyensProducers: Carolynne Cunningham (Crossing the Line), Jackson, Aimée Peyronnet (The Life Before Her Eyes), Walsh Distributor: Paramount Pictures. The Gist: Alice Sebold's best-selling novel is a heartbreaking tale narrated by a 14-year old girl -- after she has been raped and murdered. From heaven, she observes her shattered family's attempt to heal, as a detective tries to solve the case and as her killer moves along his demented path. Fact: Lynne Ramsay was originally attached to direct the film. Later on, Ryan Gosling was replaced by Wahlberg. Why is it on the list?: I'm extremely curious to see how a touchy concept might play out on the big screen. We are curious and optimistic that the film narration will make us teary eyed and are betting that this is Jackson's best since Heavenly Creatures. »

20 Most Anticipated Movies Still to Come In 2009 At the beginning of the year I made a list of my Top 15 Most Anticipated Films of 2009. Of that list I have now seen five of them. Nine out of the remaining ten made this list as I bumped Alejandro Amenabar's Agora since it has still yet to get picked up by a distributor due to rather weak reactions out of the Cannes Film Festival. However, a few films have made their way onto this list thanks to strong film festival reactions as I have put together a list of 20 films to look forward to as we move into the final six months of 2009. One film I didn't include merely because it is coming out next week and I felt it would be a wasted space is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I am undoubtedly anticipating seeing it and had it been »
