Routine cover-up plot enhanced by setting, 12 September 1999
Author: Ron Kerrigan (mvg@whidbey.com) from Whidbey Island, Washington

The setting of much of the story in Northern Canada makes this film interesting. But we don't get too much information about the culture of the Inuit before the plot becomes another 'crusading-journalist-uncovers-government-cover-up' story. The actors portraying Inuit characters are uniformly good, while the 'white' actors are okay, but none stands out. The story seems to rush past a lot of points (the version I saw was about 90 minutes long, but could it originally have been much longer, with more explanation of what was going on?). Many of the 'white' characters act pretty stupidly quite a lot of the time, and unless you're already familiar with the Inuit and their place in Canadian society you may feel let down. A missed opportunity to entertain fans of "Map of the Human Heart."
