Cop Out – Trailer

24 December 2009 5:13 PM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Cop Out

Directed by: Kevin Smith

Starring: Tracy Morgan, Bruce Willis, Adam Brody, Seann William Scott

Rating: R

Release Date: February 6, 2010

Trailer Score: 3/10

My Thoughts: Ouch. I don’t slight Kevin Smith for making a truly “Hollywood” movie. Eventually he was going to step away from his own scripts and attempt to show himself as a director capable of handling other material. But this is the result? Obviously I haven’t seen the movie yet, but this laughless trailer has me worried. Sure there will be more cussing and raunchy humor (with Smith it’s guaranteed), but the staleness of the material in this preview has me concerned that even Smith’s staple humor style will be disappointing.

I should probably watch “30 Rock” like people tell me. I don’t think Tracy Morgan has been funny except on SNL, and he doesn’t make his case any better here. His »

Kevin Smith: Why 'A Couple of Dicks' Was Renamed 'Cop Out'

24 December 2009 5:23 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

The new trailer for the upcoming buddy cop comedy Cop Out just hit the internet, but anyone who had been following the project knows the film, out February 26, 2010, had long gone by a more distinctive title: A Couple of Dicks. Fortunately, the film has an even more distinctive director: Kevin Smith, the hilariously profane indie film hero (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Zack and Miri Make a Porno) making his debut as a director of a script he did not write himself. Smith was more than happy to give EW his frank perspective on how A Couple of Dicks became Cop Out -- in a nutshell, blame the networks »

Kevin Smith Rocks Out With His Copout.

23 December 2009 10:42 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

I've never been a Kevin Smith fan. I always thought he was a horrible director (Clerks & Zack & Miri the exception) and his movies are borish dreck. Of course, fans of Kevin Smith will say I'm an idiot and have no taste, which is all Kevin Smith fans can say about anyone who doesn't idolize their false prophet. Thank God I don't live in that universe. Being a Kevin Smith fan is almost as bad as being a juggalo. Actually, those people are usually one and the same. Yes, there will be comments on how I suck because I don't like Mallrats or whatever, etc. but honestly, it's just my opinion. If you're a fan of Kevin Smith, more power to you. But if you happen to be a fan of Icp, then I shall pray for your lost soul. The first trailer for Kevin Smith's new "movie" Copout (formerly »

Kevin Smith’s ‘Cop Out’ Trailer is Here!

23 December 2009 7:08 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

More so than any other director’s works, you can very visibly track the progression of Kevin Smith’s personal life and career through films like Clerks, Dogma, Zack and Miri, etc. It’s helped by the way he exposes his life via the internet and podcasting, but you can definitely get a sense of where he is today compared to the man he was when he made Mallrats.

Now check out this trailer:

What’s unsettling about this new trailer for Cop Out, his action-comedy starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan — the first real studio film he’s been attached to, without a script of his own creation — is that it buries both Smith’s name and stylistic sensibilities.

For studios, I’m guessing that’s a great thing — Zack and Miri definitely was not a knock-out at the box-office. To longtime fans, it’s disconcerting. What does this step mean, »

Must Watch: First Official Trailer for Kevin Smith's Cop Out!

23 December 2009 6:32 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Warner Bros has debuted the trailer for Kevin Smith's Cop Out, formerly known as A Couple of Dicks, over on Apple in glorious high def. This new comedy stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as two New York City cops whose adventures include locating a stolen baseball card, rescuing a woman, and dealing with gangsters and their laundered money. Hot damn this look hilarious. I've been excited for it ever since we posted that photo of Tracy Morgan in a cellphone costume being chased by a dog. And hell yes, this trailer delivers! I love the way it starts out, what a perfect way to draw people in. Can't frickin' wait to see this! Susan Sarandon And Tim Robbins' Split, 'Crazy Heart' And Stray Peacocks In Today's Twitter-Wood

23 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Jeff Bridges' performance in "Crazy Heart" was good enough for the Golden Globes, and it was good enough for Rob Zombie as well, judging by his tweets. Kevin Smith, meanwhile, had a positively-used expletive to describe his own experience watching Edgar Wright's unreleased "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."

Less giddy was producer Jeff Katz, who used a sports metaphor to express his reaction to news that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have split. I'll let you parse and interpret that one, as his references to Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno went a little over my head. You can do so after the jump where you will also learn about Ice-t's recent "Modern Warfare 2" accomplishments, when Emmy Rossum will begin taking trapeze lessons and who found a stray peacock in their back yard. It's all retweeted in Twitter-Wood report for December 23, 2009.

Brittany Murphy's Uso Tour Appearance, 'Avatar' In 3D And 'Toy Story 3' Finished In Today's Twitter-Wood

22 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Brittany Murphy and "Avatar" look poised to dominated Twitter-Wood's thoughts this holiday week, even if most of the tweeters are leaving their offices to tweet from home and last-minute shopping expeditions right now. Alyssa Milano retweeted a photo taken when she and Murphy appeared on a Uso tour together, reflecting on the time they spent there. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks, Samm Levine and David Spade all had different reactions to "Avatar" in 3D.

You can sort out what they had to say after the jump along with a former "Saved By the Bell" star's denial of drunken behavior, Kevin Smith's response to a tweeter about his wife's Playboy photos and former Karate Kid Ralph Macchio on whether or not he plans on coming back to "Ugly Betty." It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 22, 2009.

Kevin Jonas getting Hitched this Weekend!

17 December 2009 12:55 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Well I guess if I was a 20-something year old virgin I would be in a rush to get married too; and that’s just what Kevin Jonas will be doing this weekend sources are confirming.

The barely cute Jonas Brother will be walking down the aisle with fiance Danielle Deleasa this Saturday morning after the two say their vows in front of family and friends in Long Island on Friday.

Shortly after the ceremony Kevin Jonas will go from being a boy and become a man as he loses his virginity. Let’s hope he doesn’t become a Tiger Woods. Congrats

To-Do: Get to Sherlock Holmes Early for the Trailers

14 December 2009 6:00 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

If you're like me, you like to get to the movies early for the previews -- or trailers. This love and desire for 2-3 minute looks at upcoming films on the big screen stems from my childhood, as I've often found myself more excited about the highlights of an upcoming film than the prospect of actually seeing said film. Twisted, I know, but it's who I am. The release of Warner Bros. Sherlock Holmes on Christmas Day presents an interesting opportunity for folks who like previews (and the early-look grabbing geeks who faun over every still image from the upcoming projects of their favorite filmmakers). Along with the movie (which is good), there should also be several interesting trailers, which I explore below. Keep in mind that these trailer may or may not be attached to Holmes in all markets, but as far as we've been told, this is the slate: Iron Man 2 Director Jon Favreau delivers »

Bill O'Reilly, 'Eclipse' And Denise Richards' Tattoo In Today's Twitter-Wood

11 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Ice-t had some harsh words for Bill O'Reilly today in his Twitter feed following O'Reilly's displeasure on Fox News regarding this week's episode of "Law & Order: Svu." In addition to dropping an F-bomb a few hours ago, the actor expressed his full support for writer Dick Wolf, who O'Reilly lashed out at for using his name in an unflattering manner on the show.

Elsewhere in Twitter-Wood, "Eclipse" director David Slade came out of hiding with an update on how the film is coming along. In addition to revealing a composer will be selected shortly, he characterized the way he wants Edward, Bella and Jacob to appear. Flaccid: Kevin Smith changes title to ‘A Couple of Dicks’

10 December 2009 6:10 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

You just can’t keep a good dick down.

Kevin Smith’s upcoming comedy A Couple of Dicks, starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, has worried Warner Bros. since the project title was announced and any sensible person can understand why, despite the word “dicks” being used as slang for detectives.

We under the wink and so does Warner Bros.

For Warner, the A Couple of Dicks title would have been a hardship for the distributor to market so Smith, being the swell guy that he is, has chosen a brand new title.

“The Movie Formerly Known as A Couple of Dicks has finally settled on a replacement title,” said Smith on his official site NewsAskew. “While we’ll always have Dicks in our hearts, the title we just now locked makes me smile on a bunch of different levels – including this 1: we can now advertise our movie properly (& ironically). And said marketing begins… »

Meredith Baxter, Tiger Woods And George Bush In Today's Twitter-Wood

Former "Family Ties" mom Meredith Baxter attracted quite a few tweets when she came out on the "Today Show" this morning. Seth Meyers and Steve Agee, among others, took notice while a few others were still occupied with Tiger Woods.

Kevin Smith has been fielding posts about the title of his movie "A Couple of Dicks," which is getting a new, yet-to-be-determined title. I've included one of his tweets on the subject after the jump along with a former president introducing Jason Reitman's new film, Arnold Schwarzenegger's run-in with George Lucas and Paris Hilton's birthday message to Britney Spears. DVD Review: Kobe Doin’ Work

30 November 2009 11:59 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

While I’m not the biggest fan of basketball or the NBA, it was with mild interest that I watched Spike Lee’s latest ode to the game he loves in Kobe Doin’ Work.

Focusing on L.A. Lakers star Kobe Bryant, Lee centers this documentary around one pivotal game against the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals in the ‘07/’08 season. Would the short film appeal only to fans of the game or can Lee create something which speaks beyond the hoops? The answer is a resounding “meh.”

For the first three quarters of the game, Lee has microphones and an absurd amount of cameras around the star that captures everything from on-the-bench talks, conversations with teammates, coaching staff and more. Kobe Doin’ Work sparks interest from a voyeuristic standpoint, which, come on, is pretty easy to do, but where this video shines is through Bryant’s narration. »

Blu-ray Review: Chasing Amy

30 November 2009 12:18 AM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

While in retrospect people remember the production story of Clerks and see it as the film that catapulted Kevin Smith’s career, Mallrats put that blossoming career in question after it became a critical and monetary failure when it first hit theaters. It wasn’t until the success Smith found with Chasing Amy that he had secured his place as a notable writer/director in the film industry. Chasing Amy, Smith’s straight-man exploration of a gay world and an early entry in the “bromance” category, holds up incredibly well roughly one decade after its initial release. Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) and Banky Edwards (Jason Lee) have a hit comic series together called Bluntman and Chronic. Then Holden meets a fellow writer, Alyssa Jones (Joey Lauren Adams), and falls for her. The only thing is she’s a lesbian, yet Holden doesn’t stop and Banky feels their friendship is threatened. »

Kevin Smith's Latest Film Is "Average...in a Good Way"

28 November 2009 12:55 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

When filmmakers self-promote as much as Kevin Smith does, they typically get the reputation for being a snob. However, when Smith does it, it's often so candid and humorous that he ends up coming off as self-deprecating rather than arrogant. In a recent interview with AICN, Smith described himself as " a big f--in' loser from Jersey" and said that his success has forced him to rethink the films that he makes.

It was devastating the day I realized that, like, I can't do this anymore, 'cause it's too easy at this point. Like, I could do this in my sleep, but it's disingenuous. Like, I love Zack and Miri. I mean, I think it turned out well, but I look at Zack and Miri, and I look at Chasing Amy, and I go, Okay, two movies cut from similar cloth. What's the difference? One is made with the passion and »
