A woman's vengeance

This Spanish thriller is a very good film and although it takes a while to get untracked, this story of revenge is a winner. Francesca Neri's Ana is the tragic figure who is brutally attacked by three young toughs, and this assault transforms her from a sharpshooting equestrian circus performer to a cold, calculating killing machine who is determined to find the men who abused her. Antonio Banderas is the newspaper reporter who is smitten with Ana and the two forge a romantic coupling that seemed promising until fate stepped in. The film has violent and unpleasant scenes, owing to its subject matter, but is still solid entertainment. Neri and Banderas make an appealing star duo and they have a certain chemistry between them that gives the film realism and pathos.
