Tommy Lee Jones and McConaughey in Talks for ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’

Collider declared that Tommy Lee Jones is in talks to both direct and act in The Lincoln Lawyer, a film that already has McConaughey attached as the lead. I’m already seeing some nightmarish love-child of No Country for Old Men and Failure to Launch.
The Lincoln Lawyer is based on the eponymous 2005 bestselling novel by Michael Connelly and follows an attorney who runs his business out of his car (McConaughey) and through what’s sure to be a funny little twist of fate, ends up representing a well-known Hollywood playboy in a murder case that, for our lawyer, is the chance of a lifetime. We got an early teaser (above) of new thriller web series Compulsions, which is still in post-production. This one piqued our interest early, with a few notable web series names in the mix. Stars Craig Frank (The Crew, Private High Musical) and Annemarie Pazmino (Sorority Forever) are recognizable to web fans. And as of now, the only other announced cast member is Janna Bossier. A few other recognizable faces make an appearance but are being kept under wraps. The basic setup is that even completely normal people have hidden and often dark desires, or compulsions, that are kept inside and never acted upon. Of course it would be a lot more interesting to find out what would happen if they did act upon them. And that's where this series picks up. Three leads, three different compulsions. After my Cult Movies article got people talking and listing their favorite cult picks, I decided it was time for us at Screen Rant to confess to our favorite (and likely embarrassing) “Guilty Pleasure” movies. Before I get to the list, I wanted to first talk about what a “Guilty Pleasure Movie” is.
A Guilty Pleasure, according to Wikipedia, “is something one considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. Often, the “guilt” involved is simply fear of others discovering one’s lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, rather than actual moral guilt. Fashion, music, and food can be examples of guilty pleasures.”
Those are easy-to-list guilty pleasures, along with TV shows (any reality show on VH1, really). However, I’m looking for the Movies we all hate to admit we love. To give you an example, Titanic was listed number one by Sr owner and editor-in-chief Vic Holtreman. Why is it a guilty pleasure movie? »

The summer's almost over, and so far it's been an incredibly mixed bag movie-wise. Star Trek, The Hangover, and Harry Potter are some of the few deserving wins on the box-office side while most of the supposed summer blockbusters including X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Terminator: Salvation, Bruno, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen all failed to make a financial mark (yeah, that last one was just wishful thinking because the movie sucked so much ass). Quality-wise, many of the summer's best films have actually been of the decidedly smaller variety including 500 Days of Summer, The Hurt Locker, Moon, and Away We Go. David Twohy hopes you’re not as smart as he is. In fact, he’s counting on you being kinda dim. It’s the only way you can work your way through his new thriller A Perfect Getaway and come out at the end with any semblance of having been entertained. Because he dangles before the viewer “clues” that aren’t clues but screamingly obvious indications to the solution of the “clever” game he’s playing with you, indications that only completely virgin moviegoers -- or completely stupid ones -- could misconstrue. Or else Twohy doesn’t care if you guess where he’s going. But I’m not sure if it’s any better that if he merely holds his audience in contempt. NBC, Universal Media Studios and Steve Carell's Carousel Television have signed House creator-executive producer David Shore to shepherd a remake of the classic 1974-80 crime drama The Rockford Files. Rockford, which earned the Emmy for drama series in 1978, starred James Garner as the title character, an ex-con private eye who lived in a trailer in Malibu. The series proved to be a training ground for a number of future TV heavyweights, including scribes David Chase (The Sopranos) and Chas. Floyd Johnson (Magnum P.I.) and actor Tom Selleck. As a subway commuter myself, I have to admit that the idea of getting hijacked by criminals looking to ransom off New York City resident and torture Denzel Washington is pretty terrifying. Then again, if it was John Travolta doing the hijacking, it would probably be hilarious and make for an entertaining day.
This week’s remake of “The Tacking of Pelham 1 2 3” is more than entertainment, though. It is a reminder of public transportation’s, especially the subway’s, vital role in creating kickass cinematic drama and action. Here, for your pleasure, are my five most gripping subway scenes in film history.

I always look forward to the end of the summer movie season. You can be sure to find at least one or two decent movies to watch in August that will entertain without suffering from all the hype leading up to their release. GI Joe, while I’m really excited to watch it, opens in August and if Screen Rant chatter is any indication, will most likely suffer from the hype and be judged very harshly.
If you want to find a movie worth watching you sometimes have to go off the beaten path; in this case, Hawaii. I think David Twohy’s A Perfect Getaway, which he wrote and directed, may be the sleeper hit of the summer and, if the film is as entertaining as the trailer, should be a great way to end the big movie season as well.

I love me some David Twohy. Dude definitely has some clunkers in his portfolio — I’m looking at you, “Waterworld.” I don’t care though. He wrote and directed “Pitch Black,” which also means that Vin Diesel’s Richard B. Riddick character is Twohy’s creation. He also wrote classics along the lines of “Warlock,” “Critters 2: The Main Course” and a little-known movie called “The Fugitive.”
Now Twohy has climbed back into the writer/director’s chair after an extended post-”Chronicles of Riddick” break. “A Perfect Getway,” starring Chris Hemsworth (aka Kenneth Branagh’s Thor), Milla Jovovich, Timothy Olyphant and Steve Zahn, follows a newlywed couple (Zahn and Jovovich) who are off on a hiking honeymoon in Hawaii. David Twohy is best known as the director of the Vin Diesel flick Pitch Black and its sequel, The Chronicles of Riddick, but he's also been been writing screenplays for years prior to that (some of his credits include The Fugitive, Waterworld and G.I. Jane). Clearly he knows more than just action and sci-fi (although he probably could have been on last week's poll [1]), and his new movie A Perfect Getaway is simply more evidence of that fact. The movie is a thriller about two couples who meet up during a tropical vacation in Hawaii, where they soon find that tourists are being stalked and killed. Milla Jovovich, Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant and Chris Hemsworth (yes, Thor himself [2]) star, and although there have been a handful of horror movies in this kind of setting lately (Turistas, The Ruins), it seems like the trailer may be hiding a twist or two. »

Solid and twisty thrillers are in short supply these days. More often than not current "suspense" films will rely on big names or hefty promotion to get asses in seats only to discover the actual movie is unoriginal, predictable, and bland. A new trailer for A Perfect Getaway has just premiered online, and while it's too early to tell for sure, it looks like writer/director David Twohy may have a winner. Check out the trailer. Looks pretty solid doesn't it? Twohy has a long history of entertaining films he's written and/or directed including The Fugitive, Pitch Black, Below, Critters 2, The Arrival, and many more.
