What her fans don't realize yet is that the murders in the movies are all too real!

The Prisoner Review – Choose The Village

22 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

We have seen AMC's The Prisoner.  You should too.

Welcome To Your Home From Home

Patrick McGoohan's "The Prisoner" is the grand-daddy of intellectual TV.  A bold anti-establishment experiment in surreal story telling, The Prisoner taunted the mind with all sorts of existential pondering, while effectively delivering a unique tale of adventure and intrigue.   The setup is simple: a spy(McGoohan) angrily resigns from his post and is subsequently kidnapped and taken to 'The Village,' a bizarre mash-up of architectural motifs from around the world, and around history.  Instead of names, everyone in The Village has a number – McGoohan's is 6.  Number 1 is in charge of The Village, but we never see who he is – we only see the Number 2's, a new one every week.  A psychological game of cat and mouse plays out as the masters of The Village attempt to find out why 6 resigned. 'Shattered Union' Computer Game Getting An Adaptation From Jerry Bruckheimer And J. Michael Straczynski

27 October 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

by Blair Marnell

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski have signed on with Disney for a film adaptation of 2K Games' real-time strategy title “Shattered Union.” According to Variety, Mike Stenson and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films will also come onboard as executive producers. The duo is also attached to the upcoming film adaptations of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" and “The Sorcerer's Apprentice.”

Originally released in 2005, “Shattered Union” is a turn-based tactics game that chronicles the second American Civil War following the nuclear destruction of Washington D.C. and the assassination of the President of the United States along with most of Congress. In the aftermath, several states secede and wage war against each other.

Some of the factions included within the game are the California Commonwealth, the Republic of Texas and the New England Alliance, along with an occupying European peacekeeping unit and a dangerously ultra-nationalistic Russia, »

Bruckheimer to Adapt 'Shattered Union' Video Game

27 October 2009 9:15 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Now how's this for a cool premise? "U.S. states secede from the U.S. and form their own governments that wage a civil war against each other after Washington, D.C., is wiped out in a nuclear blast and chaos ravages the nation." Sounds like it could make for a fairly novel action flick, eh? Well, as Variety informs us, that's the exact plot of a 2005 video game called Shattered Union. (Just because I've never heard of it doesn't mean it's not good. If you've played this one, leave us a mini-review in the comments section.)

The tale of a dystopian American Civil War Part II will come from producer Jerry Bruckheimer (don't act surprised), who in turn will entrust the adaptation to one J. Michael Straczynski. Serious genre fans know this gentleman as the co-creator of Babylon 5. He's written tons of TV, in addition to Eastwood's Changeling, »

Jerry Bruckheimer Literally Planning To Destroy America

27 October 2009 7:09 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Unlike many, many of the video games that get adapted for movies, Shattered Union has a concept that actually sounds like something I'd want to see on the screen. It takes place in a United States where multiple civil wars have broken out, Washington, D.C. has been wiped out by a nuclear bomb, and the Europeans are stepping in to demand we get our act together. Not bad, right? Jerry Bruckheimer, the king of putting disasters onscreen, agrees with me too. He's picked J. Michael Straczynski to adapt the game for Disney, according to Variety. Straczynski has one of the more varied screenwriting careers out there, having both created Babylon 5, written the Clint Eastwood movie Changeling, and adapted the zombie apocalypse novel World War Z. He actually seems like a good fit for the material, given that he'll have to fit in some kind of character-based drama amid »

What's Hot on SlashControl: Babylon 5

25 October 2009 8:03 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

While perusing around SlashControl tonight, I nearly stopped breathing when I came across Babylon 5. Not just a few episodes or even one or two seasons. All five seasons, 99 episodes total.

My sci-fi-loving mom taped the entire series on VHS, and I have the first few seasons on DVD. But what a thrill to find it on SlashControl. If you're not familiar with J. Michael Straczynski's groundbreaking show, it takes place in the year 2258, ten years after an Earth-Minbari War. Commander Jeffrey Sinclair (Michael O'Hare) takes command of a giant five-mile-long cylindrical space station, orbiting a planet in neutral space.

A New 'World War Z' Script Due 'In The Next Few Weeks,' Says Author Max Brooks

5 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

If you haven't read it, "World War Z" is one of the sharpest books to be released in the past decade. Set in a grim possible future, the book is presented as a series of interviews with survivors of a globe-spanning zombie war, an incident which very nearly brought about the downfall of human society. Author Max Brooks, the son of Hollywood filmmaker Mel Brooks, employs the full spectrum of commentary to create a frighteningly believable scenario in which the human race responds to a complete societal breakdown.

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak with Brooks, who is busy promoting his upcoming appearance on the Starz Inside special Zombiemania, premiering October 13 at 10pm. He was more than happy to discuss the adaptation plans for "Z," which was picked up by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment a few years ago.

First, some back story may be in order. »

Recorded Attacks: The (Very) Graphic Novel

5 October 2009 1:19 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Since their publication in 2003 and 2006, respectively, Max Brooks’ The Zombie Survival Guide and its companion novel World War Z have taken the world by storm, helping to fuel an interest and excitement in the walking dead on the printed page. With a host of pale imitations hoping to cash in on the trend currently being released, Brooks has taken to a new medium to once again show ’em how it’s done. Continuing to take a serious, intelligent historical approach, he has now visually chronicled the clash between living and dead in The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks, a graphic novel with excellent art by Ibraim Roberson that comes out October 6 from Three Rivers Press.

This latest offering isn’t the result of a spontaneous decision in the wake of Survival Guide’s success; as Brooks tells Fango, he always wanted to create a visual aid to his debut book. »

The Battlestar Galactica that never happened

22 September 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Ron Moore owes a lot to Richard Hatch for keeping the Battlestar Galactica franchise alive long enough for his marvelous reboot. So much so that he gave Mr. Hatch a significant role in his series (Of course his character did end up being killed in front of a firing squad. Make of that what you will).

With that in mind, I present to you the promotional trailer for the 1999 reboot of the franchise that never happened. Subtitled "The Second Coming", it was intended as a continuation of the 1970's series (I'm not sure whether it ignored the mistake that was Galactica 1980). The concept starred Hatch as the new fleet commander (with a cameo by the original Commander Adama, Lorne Greene) as well as a few other familiar faces from the original series. Sadly, it never got picked up. That's a shame because it was around the time of Babylon 5 »

He-Man will not work with Joel Silver

11 September 2009 10:04 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Mattel and Warner Brothers will no longer be working together on a big screen adaptation of the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchise. John Stevenson is still on to direct, but thankfully, Joel Silver has left the project (I still haven't forgiven him for his lies about Alan Moore).

The Masters of the Universe 1987 movie is still a guilty pleasure of mine (early Courtney Cox. Yum). Of course, the classic 1980's cartoon is where J. Michael Straczynski got his start before moving to bigger fish such as Babylon 5. The best big-screen adaptations usually happen when fans, or at least people who understand the source material, become filmmakers (the best examples are the Batman and Iron Man franchises). I didn't get the impression that this was happening with the He-Man movie.

Given the sheer volume of remakes that are happening, I wonder if this movie is even necessary. »

New Writer On World War Z?

Several months back, it was reported that Bond director Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) was set to direct World War Z, based on the Max Brooks novel which was being adapted for the screen by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. Max Brooks spoke to Fangoria radio and revealed that a new writer is on board to pen the script.

Matthew Michael Carnahan is on writing duty, and Brooks tells Fango, "He’s one of Hollywood’s hot A-list writers, so if they went after him and paid him a mountain of gold, it definitely shows their confidence in this project.
