The Vancouver International Film Festival kicks off in earnest tonight after a few days of panels Vancouver Film and Television Forums. The fest certainly doesn’t have the high profile of Toronto International Film Festival or Festival Du Cannes to be sure but its a growing fest in a beautiful city so who’s complaining.
Whether you are in Vancouver or following along at home, here is a menu of resources to peruse and enjoy (unless of course you are instead watching the Canucks hockey season kick-off tonight instead with the rest of Vancouver except for the people at the Whitecaps vs. Timbers soccer playoffs).

Why is Philip Morris Backing Antismoking Bills?
On Thursday, the U.S. Senate passed legislation giving the Fda authority to regulate the tobacco industry. Just 10 years ago, when Senator John McCain introduced a similar bill, it was scuttled in part by $100 million worth of lobbying on the behalf of tobacco giant Philip Morris. But Pm has backed the new bill, which implements tough new restrictions on how cigarettes can be advertised. What gives?
According to Time magazine, Pm has realized that with over half of U.S. smokers already loyal to its flagship brand, Marlboro, the new Senate bill will only block rival Rj Reynolds from gaining marketshare. Ken Kleiber of "That's Kentertainment!" will be welcoming Patricia Resnick (bookwriter of "9 to 5 The Musical") as a guest on "The Kentertainment Report" segment of the "Frank DeCaro Show" Thursday April 23rd at Noon on Sirius/Xm Satellite Radio, Channel 109. Resnick, also the co-screenwriter of the film "9 to 5", will discuss the upcoming Broadway opening of "9 to 5" The Musical plus other projects inlcuding a Nick, Jr. series she recently wrote and Executive-Produced, plus a new memoir she is currently penning. And, as a happy coincidence, Ms. Resnick wrote the Dolly Parton/James Woods vehicle "Straight Talk", a film which happens to contain the first on-screen appearance of Ken Kleiber!
