An endearing throwback to sunny Disney comedies of the '60s and '70s, this even has an appearance by Dean Jones! It's no masterpiece, but it is a likable and good-hearted movie that manages the seemingly impossible task of being a decent Brian Levant film. To be fair to the bloke he shows a light touch here, and he's helped along by the delightful performances of a constantly exasperated Charles Grodin and the ever-merry Bonnie Hunt; the chemistry between them and the kids elevates the movie. Sweet without being sickly, chaotic without being mean, 'Beethoven' is thoroughly entertaining and keeps a smile on my face despite a nagging feeling that it should all be rather average.
