David Fincher Makes Peter Proud

David Fincher’s career is pretty much flawless. You might cry “blasphemy!” simply because of Alien 3, but I’ll be very honest with you: that is not a bad entry in that series, no matter what you might believe. And then Fight Club? Zodiac? Seven?
Now, he’s working on an adaptation of the Max Ehrlich novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, to be scripted by Seven’s Andrew Kevin Walker. The story has already been self-adapted by the author once for a film in the mid-1970s, starring Margot Kidder.
According to THR, the film centers on a “college professor who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, realizing they are images of a past life, decides to search out the source of the visions. With his girlfriend in tow, he discovers a woman and her grown-up daughter who are keys to his past life.”

Actor Charles Dance's sophomore outing in the director's chair is set to be a supernatural one called The Inn at the Edge of the World . Shooting is anticipated to start sometime in the first quarter of 2010 with actors Michael Gambon ( The Omen redo), Stephen Fry ( V for Vendetta ) and Penelope Wilton ( Match Point ). That's a strong cast for this story of a group of people who spend Christmas on a remote Scottish island. Flashes of "supernatural mysticism," however, make it a holiday they'll never forget. David Fincher may have already had Alien 3 on his resumé when he directed the runaway hit Se7en but there is no doubt that the Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman starring thriller put him on the map, and so it will come as good news to those who have watched his career patchily develop that he is currently attached to direct an Andrew Kevin Walker adaptation of the 1975 Max Ehrlich novel (and film) The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud.
The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog has it that the adaptation will contemporize the supernatural-thriller about a college professor who starts to have visions and nightmares of a past life.
Fincher, who is just about to start shooting the Aaron Sorkin scripted The Social Network, will produce the remake alongside Se7en producer Michael De Luca reforming a powerful trinity that put together one of the best and most haunting films of the 90s. »

David Fincher's next gig, following Facebook app The Social Network which he's just started shooting, looks set to be The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. It'll re-team the director with Seven's writer Andrew Kevin Walker, who will adapt the novel by Max Ehrlich.The 35-year-old supernatural thriller involves a university lecturer's attempts to prove he's the reincarnation of somebody who died shortly before he was born, and to solve the mystery of his murder, for which the killer was never caught. It was filmed once before: a 1975 Bing Crosby production by J Lee Thompson, starring Margot Kidder and Michael Sarrazin, and adapted by Ehrlich himself. Screenwriter Michael Dougherty has given more details about the ideas he had suggested to Bryan Singer for the third X-Men movie.
Dougherty co-wrote Singer's highly-regarded X2: X-Men United with Dan Harris before all three left the mutant movie series to make Superman Returns.
Fox then hired writers Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg and director Brett Ratner and the result was 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand.
A year ago, I reported on a book called Mutant Cinema: The X-Men Trilogy From Comics to Screen, which included some of Dougherty's ideas for an alternative version of the third film. (Click here to read that earlier article).

A list like this is tricky to the point of madness. However, I'm going to save you the trouble by saying it right here, right now: Most of the choices on this list are obvious. There's a reason why certain names continually pop up whenever conversation drifts toward great American films. So there. I said it.
Yet, how do you weigh the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, a genius who delivered some of the all-time greatest films, but fizzled out 25 or so years ago, against a filmmaker like Woody Allen who has worked consistently for decades churning out both brilliant gems and disposable time wasters? To Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ridley Scott's iconic Alien, Sci-Fi London is holding an all-night, back-to-back screening of the films in the colliding universes of the Alien and Predator franchises.
It was 1979 when the extraterrestrial horror classic first hatched and Sci-Fi London - the London international festival of science-fiction and fantastic film - marks the three-decade milestone next month at the Apollo Piccadilly Circus cinema in Regent Street, London.
The line-up of films is: Alien (1979, director Ridley Scott, 117mins); Aliens (1986, James Cameron, 137mins); Alien 3 (1992, David Fincher, 114mins); Predator (1987, John McTiernan, 107mins); Alien vs Predator (2004, Paul W.S. Anderson, 101mins). It doesn't include 1997's Alien Resurrection or 2007's Alien vs Predator: Requiem.
The event starts around 10pm on Saturday, October 24, with DJs in the bar. The first movie begins just after 11pm and the show ends at 10am the following day. There will be prizes, giveaways, and a plentiful supply of Red Bull, »

Many movie lovers struggle when asked what their favorite films of all time are, but not me. My answer has been and always will be "Aliens." I'm not saying that it's the very best movie ever created, but it's certainly the one that most inspired me as a fan of what the movie medium can achieve. It should therefore come as no shock that the "Alien" franchise at large is unquestionably my favorite franchise in cinema history.
I love Ellen Ripley. Three Decades after his groundbreaking sci-fi horror classic Alien, Ridley Scott will return to hatch the next movie in the franchise.
Scott made the first film for Fox back in 1979 but was not involved in any of the three subsequent productions. James Cameron helmed the 1986 movie Aliens, David Fincher steered 1992's Alien 3 and Jean-Pierre Jeunet made Alien Resurrection in 1997.
There have also been two crossovers: Alien vs. Predator, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and released in 2004; and 2007's Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, helmed by The Brothers Strause.
Scott, 71, spoke about a possible fifth film on the 2003 commentary track for the Alien DVD in the quadrilogy box set, saying he felt an origin story was the best option. He also revealed in interviews that he was actually in talks to make a fifth and final film in the franchise, but nothing came of those discussions.

Several months ago, we told you that a Ridley Scott-produced Alien prequel was on the way and that the film was to be directed by Scott protege, Carl Rinsch.
Well, Great Scott! That is no longer the case.
In space, no one can hear you scream, but it would appear that the 20th Century Fox finally heard fans of the Alien franchise because they have now hired original Alien director Ridley Scott to return to the helm for the next installment of the long-running sci-fi franchise.
The long-rumored sequel reboot prequel has been gestating since 1997’s Alien Resurrection (even with the Alien Vs Predator films being produced). Scott has often publicly pondered returning to the series, but only with original star Sigourney Weaver. Back in May we learned, via Tony Scott in an interview with the folks over at Collider, that Carl Rinsch, a commercials and music video director, would helm the next film in the successful Alien franchise. Scott also confirmed the new film would be a prequel to the acclaimed 1979 feature. The project has now been officially confirmed in the trades, but Rinsch seems to be out of the director’s chair. Instead, Fox is returning to where it all began, signing on Ridley Scott to helm the prequel. Up and coming scribe Jon Spaihts is attached to write the screenplay. Spaihts has become a go-to-guy for space thrillers. After Keanu Reeves became attached to his Warner Bros. sci-fi script Shadow 19, Reeves hired Spaihts to write the space journey epic Passengers, which is set up at Morgan Creek. The film is said to focus on the evolution of Facebook from the first time it was created in 2004 on the Harvard campus by sophomore Mark Zuckenberg to what it is now with more than 200 million members worldwide. Sigourney Weaver'S iconic character Ellen Ripley from the Alien film series has been named the top female in science fiction.
She topped a list of The 25 Women Who Shook Sci-Fi compiled by Totalscifionline.com, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, in second place, and Battlestar Galactica's Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) third.
From the comic book world, the list features the movie portrayals of Storm and Catwoman and Lynda Carter's iconic 70s TV version of Wonder Woman.
Ripley first appeared in Ridley Scott's Alien (1979), emerging as the sole survivor of the Nostromo's encounter with an acid-blooded xenomorph. The character was originally written as a male role before 20th Century Fox executive Alan Ladd Jr suggested they change the gender to make the protagonist stand out.
