Good concert movie - pity Lester thought he was at Woodstock, 3 September 2001
Author: TC Raymond from England

This is, by and large, a real treat for McCartney fans, a filmed record of his record-breaking world tour that captures both Macca and a top-notch support band (including former members of the Pretenders and the Average White Band) on sparkling form, romping through a superb set of Beatles classics and McCartney's best solo work, including the brilliant 'Band On The Run', 'Live And Let Die' and 'This One'. The sound quality and staging are flawless, and the direction is mostly taut and exciting, but Lester chooses to stir in a lot of documentary footage - for example, 'The Long And Winding Road' becomes a critique of the Vietnam War, 'Good Day Sunshine' is accompanied by a lot of miscellaneous clips of (you've guessed it) sunny days, people going to work, skydivers, and what looks like breakfast cereal commercials, 'Band On The Run' includes several clips of the Beatles in their heyday, and it all becomes tiresome and distracting, as if Lester was trying to retrospectively weigh down Paul's music with the socio-political significance we already knew was there. Didn't it cross his mind that we'd just rather watch McCartney and his band perform? That said, this is a very enjoyable concert flick that every serious student of perfect pop music should search out.
