For unexplained reason this was being aired at nearly 3 Am on our national television ! Maybe they had no empty time for sitcom like it. Or maybe it's the perfect time for a sitcom about mind. Anyway that gave me the chance to follow it peacefully in the deep of the night like a special treat especially also when it was airing daily.
This was the closest of what (Sigmund Freud) might want from a sitcom ! In fact the main idea was genius, but was it ready to continue ? The appearance of all our minds' rulers in duel and discussion all the way was great imagination and cute fun apart, but with not many renewals the show adhered to the same formula of having a happening then some jokes about it from the crazy bunch in the head. To have maybe the rarest group of characters in the sitcom history : Angel (Sensitivity), Animal (Lust), Wimp (Anxiety) Genius (Intellect) just imprisoned in the same place and case every time !
Although cancellation is not always well news, but I think that helped the show to be fine memory without any malformation or desperate desire to be on air by any cost. Not to mention how I didn't regard as auspicious the declared idea that if the show got a fourth season, there was going to be a second set of head characters introduced !! I thought that was awful idea with not much of innovation. It's like adding a new "girl" car in the last season of (Knight Rider) beside the "Male" car (K.I.T.T) because of some weariness hit badly. Here it would've gotten another four characters in another head ! Well.. I believe every show got hypothetical age before its inevitable expiration date, and 3 seasons were enough age for it already before any dullness to hit !
Aside from the attraction of the main idea, and your funny facing to your own thinking like this, I was waiting for any scene that got (Yeardley Smith) in it. She as (Louise) was totally adorable; her magical voice, her miniature features, her perfect attitude as sidekick, and her tender charisma in general, all of that agglutinated me to my seat every single episode to enjoy her presence and performance. The best thing is that she smartly knew how to make you laugh at her or sympathy with her in the same time.
On the contrary (William Ragsdal) as the title's character was flat, he was the less talented amongst all the good cast, and less bright than his mind's inhabitants whom were beautifully selected, constantly comic and in harmony.
It was different show that demanded difficult writing. Despite anything I think the writers pulled it off as light comedy with exceptional perspective. It just didn't want to reach the high rank of being thoughtful while it got the potential for it.
I consider it great that the show managed to survive for 71 episodes (it looked at first like the ones that last for only 13 !), and it was good also to stop at that number because after that we would've hated Herman and his Head, and their writers !
(Herman's Head) was wonderful original show, that didn't find many wonderful original ideas, plots, to get longer time on the screen. It needed radical changes to remain in effect and be as ambitious as its premise. In one word it was imaginative work that came to a phase where it lacked imagination a bit.
My memorable moments : (Herman) asks (Louise) for a hug as encouragement before hard work challenge then after she hugged him and he left she sighed to say "What a guy !". (Molly Hagan) as the forever tender and moral (Angel) takes her skirt off in front of the others, while (Herman) is living a hot moment of seduction, saying unconsciously "The heat here is unbearable !". (Animal) felt sudden zeal to ask eagerly "What's Happening ?" so he got answered " Heddy is kissing us" !
..That was uniquely funny.
