Michael Caine is one of my favorite actors, and Robert Louis Stevenson is one of my favorite authors. So when I heard about this, I had high hopes that it would be very good. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Very wrong.
Despite Caine, who, as always, gives a good performance, this production was utterly ridiculous. Once you see Hyde, it literally looks as if he is wearing a mask of Dick Cheney with leprosy. The addition of Cheryl Ladd as Jekyll's sister/lover was idiotic. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was never supposed to be a love story. What's more, the dialogue was nothing short of abhorrent.
The only good thing I can say about this film is that it was more unintentionally hilarious than those science fiction films from the 50s. This would've been a good film for Mystery Science Theater 3000.
