Star Trek’s Chris Pine to be the next Jack Ryan?

24 October 2009 3:21 PM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Star Trek lead actor Chris Pine is considering commandeering another franchise from Paramount – one that was previously led by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and most recently Ben Affleck.

According to Variety, the actor who played the newest version of James T. Kirk is in negotiations to be the next Jack Ryan in a series that has already spanned four films (The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears).

He is also in talks to work with Disturbia director D.J Caruso on a new project titled The Art of Making Money, which is set to start shooting early next year.

The next Jack Ryan film is in development, with producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld working on an original script by Hossein Amini, who used his original concept (the new project will not use a Tom Clancy novel directly, apparently »

'Black Lightning' trailer: A boy and his car fight Russian crime

19 October 2009 1:19 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

When I first saw the phrase "Timur Bekmambetov's Black Lightning," I wondered to myself, "Did I miss the announcement that the director of Wanted was taking on one of DC Comics' most prominent African-American superheroes?" And then I watched the trailer. Now, while my Russian is a little rusty -- what little I know, I gleaned from Chris Claremont's X-Men comics and The Hunt for Red October -- I'm pretty sure I don't see any black people here: What I do see is a boy and his super-powered car righting wrongs and getting chicks. Kind of like »

Chris Pine, who was recently seen as Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. AbramsStar Trek reboot, is reportedly in talks to help reboot another franchise character for Paramount: CIA analyst Jack Ryan. The article stipulates that said talks have just started, but Pine is expected to come aboard the Jack Ryan film soon while the project is still taking shape.

The studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are reportedly working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, based on an original concept. The project is still in development and at the moment there’s no word on if Pine will make another Star Trek film before taking on the role of Jack Ryan. Let’s hope he does.

While I do think Pine was a surprisingly good Kirk, I have to wonder if he’s right for Jack Ryan. Alec Baldwin worked very well as the »

Chris Pine will soon be all over the big screen. The "Star Trek" actor is keeping himself really busy, and now he's even in talks to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in Paramount's upcoming franchise reboot.

Not much is known about the project at this stage, but Variety says Pine is already in negotiations to play the character in the film based on Tom Clancy's novels. Hossein Amini wrote a script draft.

Of course, this is not the first time Ryan appears on the big screen. The character previously showed up in "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," "Clear and Present Danger" and "The Sum of All Fears." »

Chris Pine Is the New Jack Ryan!

14 October 2009 4:30 PM, PDT | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

Just yesterday we were chatting about Chris Pine, and I said that the Star Trek actor could easily become the next Matt Damon if he chose the right roles. Well, ladies and Fandango freaks – it looks like Pine will take another step closer to the "Next Matt Damon" status I predicted as Variety tells us the guy will star as CIA analyst Jack Ryan in Paramount's reboot of the popular action franchise that once starred Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck as Ryan in films like The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears. The character himself is based on a series of Tom Clancy novels.   It's been known for awhile now that Paramount was looking to go younger with their Ryan reboot, with names like Ryan Reynolds and...

Chris Pine Could Be The Next Jack Ryan

14 October 2009 10:28 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Chris Pine is hot stuff in Hollywood right now without a doubt, after his turn as iconic Starship Captain, James T. Kirk in this year’s Star Trek, and the young actor seems to have writers, directors and producers falling at his feet.

So it should come as no surprise to FilmShaft readers that Paramount Pictures are in negotiations with Pine to play the part of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, in a reboot of the series based on the Tom Clancy stories.

The character of Jack Ryan has had a rocky Hollywood career at best. Should the deal go through, Chris Pine will join a who’s who of Hollywood actors who have previously brought the character to the big screen – Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger) and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears).

Chris Pine, who became a household name over the summer by playing Captain Kirk in the blockbuster 'Star Trek,' is now stepping into a role that has been made famous by Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck. Pine, 29, will take on the role of Jack Ryan, according to Variety. "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan," Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman told the trade. "With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise." Baldwin was the first to play Ryan in 1990’s 'The Hunt for Red October,' while Ford played him in 1992’s 'Patriot Games' and 1994’s 'Clear and Present Danger,' and Affleck took over the role in 2002’s 'The Sum of All Fears.'

Chris Pine to Become Jack Ryan?

14 October 2009 8:33 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The Tom Clancy books focusing on CIA agent, John Ryan that spawned movies, The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears are all in my list of all-time favourite action movies. The books that Clancy has written were all be converted from the page to the screen brilliantly. They’ve also had excellent casts with high profile actors playing the lead role of Jack Ryan.

Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck have all played the part and today, Variety are reporting that next to take on the lead is Captain Kirk…. I mean Chris Pine!!

The movie has no name as yet but the two books that haven’t yet been made into movies are ‘Red Rabbit’, about a plot to kill the Pope; and ‘The Cardinal of the Kremlin’, where Ryan is still a CIA analyst working his way up the ranks. »

Captain Kirk to Play Jack Ryan and Counterfeit Money

14 October 2009 7:53 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Though we don't see him much these days, for a few years Tom Clancey's Jack Ryan had a great run onscreen. Alec Baldwin was the first actor to play the role in The Hunt for Red October. Then Harrison Ford had a good run as Ryan in Patriot Games and A Clear and present Danger. It all came to an end, though, when Ben Affleck's The Sum of All Fears finished off the franchise.

But since Clancey's books and video games are still selling strong, Variety reports that Paramount Pictures wants to reboot the franchise and is negotiating with Star Trek's Chris Pine to play the Ryan role. Hossein Amini wrote the script for the reboot based on an original concept. No director has been named since Sam Raimi left the project.

Before Pine starts work on a Ryan movie or Star Trek 2, he'll be busy with »

Chris Pine Could Be the New Jack Ryan

I can picture this. Chris Pine stepping into Jack Ryan's shoes sounds like a snug fit to me. Variety reports Paramount Pictures is close to making a deal with Pine to take over the role of Jack Ryan, a character played by three other actors in previous films based on Tom Clancy novels. Alec Baldwin kicked off the Jack Ryan franchise in 1990 by starring in The Hunt for Red October (my personal favorite Jack Ryan film). Harrison Ford then boarded the Ryan express, tackling lead roles in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and Ben Affleck went action crazy as Ryan in 2002's The Sum of All Fears. Now Paramount's hoping Pine will help reboot the franchise, similar to the way he helped do with one of this year's biggest blockbusters, Star Trek.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan looks to be played by Chris Pine

14 October 2009 5:00 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Star Trek’s Captain Kirk isn’t the only character that will get a youthful makeover. Author Tom Clancy’s CIA hero Jack Ryan looks to be headed towards a reboot with Chris Pine in talks to play him.

Though the upcoming Jack Ryan project is still in its infancy, the trades are reporting that the film will be based on an original concept rather than on an existing work from Clancy. Hossein Amini (The Four Feathers, Jude) is currently writing a draft of the script for Paramount. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are producing.

Jack Ryan was originally played by Alec Baldwin in the 1990 Oscar-winner The Hunt for Red October. Harrison Ford played Ryan in the ’90s features Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.

In 2002, The Sum of All Fears starred Ben Affleck as the analyst in a reboot attempt that virtually ignored all pre-existing films. It didn’t go over well. »

Chris Pine in Talks to Play Jack Ryan

14 October 2009 4:36 AM, PDT | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

Fresh from his summer success in Star Trek (try saying that five times fast!), it seems that Chris Pine is in increasing demand with the big studio heads.

Not only is he in talks to star in D.J. Caruso's counterfeit cash tale The Art Of Making Money, but the rumour mill is telling us that he's also a possible frontrunner to reinvigorate Tom Clancy's thriller franchise with the long-mooted (and still untitled) Jack Ryan movie.

Paramount Pictures is negotiating with Pine to play the trouble-magnet CIA analyst in the reboot of the franchise courtesy of scriptwriter Hossein Amini.

If he gets the gig, Pine would be the fourth actor to play Ryan. Alec Baldwin originated the role in The Hunt For Red October, while Harrison Ford picked up the torch in Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger, before Ben Affleck nearly sunk the whole thing with The Sum Of All Fears. »

Chris Pine May Be the New Jack Ryan

13 October 2009 10:34 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

I suppose we should have seen this coming. Over the last few months we've reported quite a bit on the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan film series -- a franchise that has been all but dead since The Sum of All Fears failed to make a big dent in the box office. We know that Paramount has been planning to revive it, however, and thanks to films like The Hunt For Red October and Patriot Games (and their respective portrayals of the character by Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford) there's quite a bit of interest in seeing the character continue. We've also known that Paramount wanted to skew the character younger. That being the case, of course they're turning to the man who had a lot to do with reinventing another Paramount character for a younger generation: Chris 'Captain Kirk' Pine. Variety reports that Pine is in talks to take on »

Paramount Pines for Jack Ryan

13 October 2009 9:45 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Actor Chris Pine (Star Trek) is presently in negotiations with Paramount Pictures to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in a reboot of the franchise based on the successful Tom Clancy novels.

This effectively confirms that the new film will be a prequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog, the studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini (Killshot), based on an original concept.

They are still deep in development and it is unclear whether Pine would make the Star Trek sequel before delving into the world of espionage as Jack Ryan.

If the deal is struck, Pine will be the fourth actor to play Ryan. Alec Baldwin originated the character in 1990's The Hunt for Red October, after which Harrison Ford took over the character in 1992's Patriot Games and 1994's Clear and Present Danger.

Chris Pine: Better Than Baldwin, Ford and Affleck?

Jack Ryan is coming back, and he's going to look a lot like Chris Pine. The actor, fresh off the success (and bloopers) of the Star Trek reboot, is in talks to take over the role of the CIA hero of Tom Clancy's novels, according to Variety. On film, the character was first played by Alec Baldwin in 1990's The Hunt for Red October, then Harrison Ford for 1992's Patriot Games and 1994's Clear and Present Danger and finally Ben Affleck in 2002's The Sum of All Fears. Pine proved he could reinvent an iconic role like Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek, so do you think he has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of these three talented actors? Sound off! »
