Watchable though average and tame vampire picture, 8 May 2008
5/10
Author: t-birkhead from United Kingdom

This is about the only Stuart Gordon picture I've seen thus far that I wasn't too thrilled by. There was a lot I liked about it, it s just that it didn't really do anything exciting or significant. Actingwise I was hooked in nicely. It was great to see a post Ferris Bueller Mia Sara, giving a nice performance as the heroine, perfectly suited to the film. Deszo Garas and Robert Reynold's played some locals effectively, and Anthony Perkins made for an OK vampire, hammy but kinda amusing and cool. A some way pre Heroes Jack Coleman appears as well, and does OK though his role is pretty thin. The film is nicely paced and atmospheric with fine Budapest locations standing in for Bucharest I recall. The problem is that the film doesn't really go anywhere. It chugs along, its watchable, even a little charming, and has a decent plot but nothing that exciting happens. The film builds to a watchable climax of little consequence and then ends. If there were gore, or sleaze, or just any good twistedness then it could have really worked. Sadly, hamstrung by its TV movie nature, this film is just a few shiny things that amount to not so much.
