Why David Letterman Attracts Crazy People [Video]

2 October 2009 10:49 AM, PDT | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

What is it about David Letterman that baits the crazies? First there was the dark 2005 incident in which a handyman at his Montana ranch was planning to abduct Letterman’s 22-month-old son, Harry. And then last night, the host publicly defused a $2-million extortion plot against him by revealing what the would-be blackmailer had against him: that Letterman had had sex with staffers from his show while he was in a relationship with longtime-girlfriend, Regina Lasko, Harry’s mom, to whom Letterman is now married. But Letterman also draws craziness from his guests, more so than other talk show hosts. If you’re a controversial, provocative character like Paris Hilton—or you’re pretending to be one, like Andy Kaufman or Joaquin Phoenix (see above clip)—you get the most bang for your talk-show-appearance buck with Letterman. Disorder In The House: A Playlist For A Carolina Liar, Joe Wilson

10 September 2009 6:20 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

As a general rule of procedure, I don't waste much time making playlists for fools on the federal payroll. In the case of Representative Joe Wilson, I'll make an exception -- if only to try and shut up this loudmouth for at least a little while. "Disorder in the House" -- Warren Zevon "Bigmouth Strikes Again" -- The Smiths "Liar, Liar" -- Deborah Harry "Too Rude" -- The Rolling Stones "Little Liar" -- Joan Jett "Fools" - Diane Birch "Beautiful Liar" -- Beyonce and Shakira "Little Lies" -- Fleetwood Mac "Rude Boys Back In Town" - Michael Franti & Spearhead "Liar" -- The Meters "Love In The Lies" - Amos Lee "Crazy People" - The Wreckers "Lies" -- Nancy Sinatra "Liar" -- Queen "Smash Lies" -- Matisyahu "Shut Up" -- Black Eyed Peas "Lies" -- Stephen Stills "Liar" -- Nazareth "Lies" -- J. J. Cale "Lies" -- Joe Firstman "Dance Little »

Dead Celebrities Crazy People Insist Are Still Alive But in Hiding

10 July 2009 4:00 AM, PDT | Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news »

When Michael Jackson died on June 25, it took about five minutes before some looney Internet junkie started blogging about how he's really not dead, he's just hiding. That's right, he faked his own death "to escape the crushing pressures of life in a fishbowl." (Thanks for the quote, Derek Klontz, "herbalist, author and journalist of international reach.")

But, of course, as anyone (who's completely certifiably insane and has seen Death Becomes Her too many times) can tell you, Mj wasn't the first celebrity to grow tired of all that fame and money and attention and decide to check out with a forged death certificate.

Here's a tribute to some of the others, wherever they're holed up. »
