Directed by Patrick Magohan who was the guiding force behind the cult Classic series, The Prisoner, & having Patrick in front of the camera as the murderer, the cast in this one is strong. The trouble is that this 1990 entry closing in one 2 hours is too long for the story line. Columbo spends so much time solving this one, that a good nap & some poppycock makes it an effort to watch.
The acting is superb, and there is plenty of the grinding work Columbo is known for is here. Troulbe is it would make a better 90 minute episode & it even feels padded. This is one time the agenda for the murder gives it structure, and the political intrigue gives it substance.
There is an interesting political statement about government spending in this that is still true today. While this one is OK, & I like Patrick Magohan (spelling here is my problem), one viewing of this one is enough for me, even though I have the 1990 season DVD set.
