Beck One Foot In The Grave Reissue (K)
Beck’s One Foot In The Grave was released on an indie label in 1994, the same year “Loser” and Mellow Gold had captured America’s attention. But whereas Mellow Gold dabbled in everything from hip hop to hardcore, One Foot in the Grave offered a straight shot of the anti-folk sound Beck honed as a busker on the streets of L.A.. What’s most exciting about this reissue—besides the excuse it gives Beck cultists to rekindle memories from 1994—is all the new material. 16 previously unreleased songs, to be exact. Check out the raw, early version of Sea Change’s “All in Your Mind” and “Mattress,” a song that inspired just about every indie band around right now, even though they couldn’t hear it until today.
Verdict: Buy It
