Trivia:
Four days before filming, Corey Haim broke his leg and Dinger's character had to be rewritten to include the injury. While his actual cast was removed during filming, he had to wear a fake one for the remainder of the production. In the movie Dinger says that his mother hit him with her car. In real life, Haim broke his leg while trying to teach his mom how to drive a motorbike. She couldn't use the breaks well yet and ran into the side of a building, breaking her nose and Corey's leg.

I consider this film to be one of the staples of growing up in this society. The script has fun with the trials and nuances of growing up, without being preachy. On the plot side, this film can be a little difficult to follow on the first time watching, as the story is very imaginative and surreal. Viewers are flitted back and forth between reality and a very well-done dream sequence that features great performances by the talented Jason Robards and Corey Feldman.
