Darius McCrary Speaks on Playing Malcolm Winters

16 hours ago | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

When first offered the role of Malcolm Winters on The Young and the Restless, former Family Matters star Darius McCrary says he didn't hesitate to accept.

“I’ve always thought it was a great gig. I always wanted to do it. So when my manager approached me and mentioned The Young and the Restless I thought, ‘Wow. That’s hot,'" the actor recently said.

Of course, Winters is one of the most beloved characters in show history. Does McCrary feel any pressure stepping into a role created by Shemar Moore?

“The responsibility I have is to be the best performer that I can be," he said. "Hopefully if I’m delivering solid performances and I’m really good as an actor, none of that will even matter.

"I hope that everybody loves me in this role just as much as they loved [Moore], but I hope they love me just a little more. »

Daytime soaps rarely land in Movieline's wheelhouse. But the advent of James Franco's General Hospital career behooves us to acknowledge other ridiculous cast changes -- and this time, we're on the brink of a biggie. As announced in November, Darius McCrary, who has had a rough go of it in the press last we checked, is replacing Shemar Moore as Malcolm Winters on The Young and the Restless. McCrary most famously dazzled us as Eddie Winslow on Family Matters, and his new gig begins tomorrow. In the meantime, let's review his most dramatic television gig yet. »

Gays of our Lives (December 8, 2009)

7 December 2009 7:43 PM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Welcome to another edition of Gays of Our Lives. This week in Gool Theater, we’ve got some very good clips from As the World Turns. And yet, the show still managed to annoy me. Am I just picky? Watch for yourself and see. Plus, Good Times, Bad Times (Dutch) starts an intriguing plot arc, Roman risks his life on All That Matters and One Life to Live continues to astound and amaze. Thankfully, it’s in a good way.

Gool Scoops And Spoilers has the dish on the new gay storyline on Emmerdale, Kyle and Oliver each make a commitment to Nick on One Life to Live, but can they keep their promises? Plus, Ravi comes to the defense of his sisters on Hollyoaks, Ian is trapped in a dicey situation on Shameless (U.S.), the kids from Glee make it to Sectionals in the final episode until – gasp! »

Family Matters meets The Young and the Restless ... casting wise

20 November 2009 8:02 AM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

It's taken a while, but The Young and the Restless has finally filled a role that's been vacant for too long. No, David Hasselhoff is not coming back as Snapper Foster. The role of Malcolm Winters is returning and Darius McCrary's got the Y&R role. Malcolm, the dynamic younger brother of Neil Winters, has been missing in action for a while because the previous actor in the part, Shemar Moore, has become a star in primetime.

The Winters family is an important element in the Y&R canvas and they've missed Malcolm. Shemar was asked to come back, but with his success on Criminal Minds, there simply wasn't time in his schedule for both shows. Truth be told, there probably wasn't enough money to compel him to work that hard. So,while the fans might have liked Shemar back, they'll have to get used to a new face instead. »

We have bad news and good news for fans of The Young and the Restless:

Too busy on Criminal Minds, Shemar Moore will not be reprising the role of Malcolm Winters.

But the character is making a comeback on the top-rated soap opera, as Entertainment Weekly reports Darius McCrary has signed on for the role.

“We are thrilled to have the character of Malcolm back on Y&R,” said Maria Bell, the drama’s co-executive producer/head writer, in a statement. “Malcolm, Neil Winters’ brother, has always been a catalyst to exciting stories. He’s coming back to town to see his brother and to reunite with his biological daughter, Lily Winters, as she fights for her life. Malcolm is a photographer... someone who lives on the edge and who always pushes the envelope. »

Monday’s Dancing: What You Didn’t See

13 October 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | People.com - TV Watch | See recent People.com - TV Watch news »

Dancing Dolls: An audience member in the balcony grabbed the studio's attention by holding up Donny and Marie Osmond dolls she brought to the taping. The Barbie-sized dolls were, according to the woman, a gift from many years ago. During a commercial break, the warm-up guy took a doll and walked down to have Marie, who was cheering on brother Donny from the front row, sign it. Center of Attention: He wasn't even on the dance floor but all eyes were on Gilles Marini as he took a seat in the front row next to Brothers and Sisters star Rachel Griffiths and Mark Dacascos' wife and three kids. Female fans squealed once they spotted Marini, a finalist last season. They stood up from their seats and shouted his name as the Sex and the City actor waved. Not that we expected Bachelorette Jillian Harris and her fiancé Ed Swiderski to be kaput already, but just in case there was any curiosity, the TV couple is still going strong. Former Girls Next Door girl Kendra Wilkinson has once again faced off with cranky celebrity blog What Would Tyler Durden Do on matters of the heart—this time, on the subject of when it's appropriate to introduce your significant other to your family. "If I’ve dated the girl for more than a few months, I’ve almost definitely spun some intricate web of lies that I now must either admit to (no) or dance around all night »

Child Star Grows Up, Avoids Reality TV -- An Interview with Jaleel White

2 July 2009 1:25 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Jaleel White has worked in Hollywood since he was a child, acting in everything from The Jeffersons to Dreamgirls to the Sonic the Hedgehog animated TV series. But he's admittedly most well-known for one role: Steve Urkel, the geek next door in the sitcom Family Matters who became a 90s icon. Since the show went off the air in 1998, White has kept himself busy, attending UCLA film school and working as an actor and a writer. He is currently starring in a new web series called "The Road to the Altar," a mockumentary about wedding planning. I recently spoke with White about Urkel, the web and why he hasn't been on reality TV. Huffington Post: You were only 12 when you took the role of Urkel and it was originally intended as a one-time guest appearance. If the character hadn't »

[DVD Review] Tyler Perry's House of Payne: Volume Four

18 June 2009 9:48 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

With each of Tyler Perry’s films scoring respectable box office earnings on their opening weekends, the argument that he’s filling a niche market long ignored by Hollywood merits closer consideration. Has Hollywood been ignoring the African-American viewer? The notion does carry some weight. Compared to all the films that skew primarily Caucasian in casting and targeted demographic, films made by Hollywood closely resembling Perry’s in any given year can generally be counted on one hand. Obviously this doesn’t mean that the average film can’t be enjoyed by people of all races, creeds and upbringings – but there are undeniable variations in family customs between say an Anglo Saxon Catholic couple and an African-American Baptist couple. Both groups may be able to relate to Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts blushing on the screen, but there will be an inevitable gap in how each pair will relate to what they see on screen. »

‘Road to the Altar’ Trailer, Jaleel White is Getting Married

24 April 2009 11:25 AM, PDT | Tubefilter.tv | See recent Tubefilter News news »

If there is one thing that the American public can take away from the political events of the last six months, it is the understanding that people place incredible significance on the ritual of marriage. And as Mwg Entertainment's latest show Road to the Altar demonstrates, that's precisely why it can be so darn hilarious. Road to the Altar is a matrimony mockumentary starring Jaleel White (better known as Steve Urkel from Family Matters, though I'm sure he hates me for saying that) and Leyna Weber (don't pretend you don't remember her from As The World Turns) as the husband and wife-to-be. So far, there's only a teaser that's been trickling through the Internet, but when the show premieres on June 15th you can expect plenty of gags about floral arrangements and family compatibility, disbursed in ten 4-minute episodes. Personally, I'm just excited to see Jaleel White again. »
