An Unusual Composer in Residence

In case you have not noticed, 2009 has been The Year of Sputtering Rage. Talk radio lives on it. The evening news seems calculated to foment it. The Senate Republicans would be utterly lost without it. Sputtering rage is "pure" and is alleged to embody "common sense" at high volume. It requires no thinking; in fact it is the polar opposite of thought. And the one thing that all of the sputtering rage has in common is the belief that any idea that is different, unconventional or creative must of necessity have been propounded by an idiot.
When I first heard the news that the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery (a part of King's College, London) had engaged the Irish composer John Browne to serve as composer in residence for a year, sputtering

I typically don't cover Broadway but, if the names are strong enough, I'll tap into the medium on the rare occasion. A perfect example would be when I hear that both Liev Schreiber and Scarlett Johansson will be toplining a Broadway revival.
Scarlett Johansson, Liev Schreiber for A View From the Bridge
It looks like Schreiber and Johansson joined A View From the Bridge just in time, as it is expected to open at Cort Theater later this season. Johansson, who only recently wrapped Iron Man 2, will be making her Rialto debut in the role. Schreiber has a bit more experience, having last been on Broadway in the 2007 revival of Talk Radio. The actor also won a Tony for his part in Glengarry Geln Ross back in 2005.
A View From the Bridge centers on a Brooklyn longshoreman (Schreiber) who becomes romantically obsessed with his orphaned niece (Johansson). View bowed

In what has to be one of the greatest genre stories in recent years, the horror genre’s most prolific writer, Edgar Allan Poe, will be given a royal ceremony beginning on October 7th with a public viewing of his body at the Poe house and continuing all the way to October 11th with a funeral procession and service.
Because there is so much fantastic information in this press release, I’m going to leave it as is. Be sure to check out Poe Bicentennial for even more information, and in the meantime get comfortable and read on! I so wish I could be there for this.
This will be the biggest Poe Bicentennial event in the country that marks Poe’s death and life. Poe’s body will lie in state at his Amity Street home for an unprecedented 11 hours on Wednesday, October 7th, for public viewing. Immediately following
