'Friday The 13th': Ranking The Series From Top To Bottom

13 November 2009 12:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

by Kyle Anderson

Today is Friday the 13th, the unluckiest day of the year! That gives me an excuse to indulge in one of my favorite pasttimes as an amateur "Friday the 13th" historian. I can't remember when my obsession with the adventures of Jason Voorhees really began, but I do know that I've studied this series from top to bottom multiple times.

Perhaps you're new to the "Friday" game and need some guidance. The natural urge would be to start from the beginning, but that would be a mistake that would result in sadness and nausea. Since the continuity between movies doesn't matter in the slightest, it's best to take them out of order. But where to start? Glad you asked. Here are the 12 "Friday the 13th" films, ranked in order of greatness from truly excellent to whatever "Jason Goes to Hell" is. Stay lucky!

From Hollywood Crush: Whether he's slaying vampires with stakes or slaying audiences with laughter, there's one thing that everybody can agree upon when it comes to actor Ryan Reynolds — he's pretty awesome.

The Canadian-born actor, recently seen in this summer's "The Proposal" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," turned 33 years-old today, prompting the crew here at Birthday Bash — which mostly consists of me, but I like referring to myself as a team — to wish the erstwhile Van Wilder a very happy birthday!

If you're not as convinced as I am that Reynolds is a fantastic Hollywood icon worth celebrating, then please indulge me as I run down five reasons we should all be thankful for the actor's continually evolving career.

The 2009 Hottest MCs in the Game rollout is on! As in 2007 and 2008, the list, determined by the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust, is based on an Mc's achievements right now, rather than an entire career. The criteria is based on a combination of rhyme skill, flow and how those things are implemented musically as the main factors. The Brain Trust also considers buzz, impact, commercial success — sales, airplay, business ventures, Web presence, endorsements and helping to spawn other artists' careers — and the intangible, impact: Can an artist not only contribute to the rap game but influence cultural shifts? Are they trendsetters? All of these factors — and the results of our audience poll, which closed last week and gets a vote at the Roundtable during the Brain Trust's debate — contribute to »

While Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan has more than a few problems, it's still good cheesy fun. Especially the scene we're about to help you revisit. Arguably the best scene in the film is Jason's boxing match, which ends in probably the most hilarious way possible. Want to know how it was pulled off or if punches were even pulled at all? Breaking News: Turns Out Jason Didn't Take Manhattan

Now It Can Be Told: Today at Paramount's DVD luncheon commemorating the release of Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood and Part VII: Jason Takes Manhattan, actor Kane Hodder, who played Jason Voorhees in both films, made a surprising revelation about the trailer for Jason Takes Manhattan, a perennial favorite among fans of the series. "This is the first time I've ever said it: that's not me," he announced. "We were shooting in Vancouver, that was done on the Jersey side of Manhattan, and I don't know who it is."

Hodder was first cast in The New Blood and stayed with the series for four installments, including the two New Line iterations Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X. Hodder said that not only was he not the hockey-mask-wearing manic in question when that teaser was shot, but he didn't feel like the actual performer played the character accurately. »
