A 'Twilight' Actress In The White House In Today's Twitter-Wood

29 December 2009 2:45 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Christian Serratos was talking about going to Greece yesterday, but last night she was post pictures from her trip to the White House, where she visited a cardboard Christmas tree.

In other tweets, Mindy Kaling saw "Avatar," and she and fellow "Office" cast member Rainn Wilson ran a hypothetical question about how Dwight would react to Na'vi. Click on past the jump to see what they predicted along with what Adam Duritz gave Emmy Rossum for Christmas, whose Wii workout game Diablo Cody has been using and what Neil Gaiman security pat-down he had to endure. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 29, 2009.

Dan O'Bannon, Chris Henry And Actresses Who Play Wii In Today's Twitter-Wood

18 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This was a rough week for memorial tweets, with Tisha Taylor Murphy and Roy Disney's passings both making headlines. More condolences showed up today for "Alien" screenwriter Dan O'Bannon and Bengals wide received Chris Henry, who both had their share of fans in our feed.

Following up on Jason Reitman's Olympic Torch tweets from the week, posted a much better photo today and got some moral support from Roger Ebert. You can check that out below, along with a shot of "New Moon" actor Alex Meraz's new t-shirt, two actresses who are not ashamed of their Wiis. It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 18, 2009.

Warning: Graphic Images

16 December 2009 8:57 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Warning: graphic images. Made ya look, didn't I? Wtfigo (is going on)? I am shocked and saddened by the seemingly insurmountable amount of visual carnage that is being pushed as news. With the advent of the internet and 3G and 4G technology, images and streaming video of gruesome accidents, attacks and yesterday, on this very site, images of a stoning. I hope these gruesome images result in some social change and public outrage but I fear it will be just a spectator sport for so many. In the sequel to A Fish Called Wanda, Fierce Creatures, a New Zealand media tycoon talks of buying the TV rights to executions. That was a parody, a clever social statement and a fiction. Today, it is seems seconds away from becoming a grim reality. Watch an NFL player have his legged snapped or a »

Palin Turned Down Move To Hollywood

27 November 2009 12:21 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Monty Python star Michael Palin refused to take his career to Hollywood - because he prefers the comfort of his British home.

The actor starred in a string of successful films in the 1980s, but declined offers to move to Tinseltown as he was put off by the hectic lifestyle.

And he feared the only movie parts available to him in Los Angeles would be stereotypical English roles.

He says, "I'm not sure that failure's quite the right word. What happened was that, all these films that I made, like Time Bandits, and Brazil and A Private function, A Fish Called Wanda, they all did very well in America, but they were all made here (Britain). So I was being asked, you know, your films have done well, come over to Hollywood, we'll write you a part here.

"Now, the only parts that some British actors at my age were getting in Hollywood were butlers, things like that... they all end up as butlers in some Hollywood mansion. And I realised that as insidiously lovely though the whole Hollywood lifestyle might be... you know balls, and massage parlours, and off to Las Vegas every weekend and all that, (it) wasn't really what I wanted. I quite like being at home." »

For Your Consideration: The Hangover?

23 November 2009 12:31 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Some folks are scratching their heads over a recent “For Your Consideration” ad is for one of the year’s most profitable films, Todd PhillipsThe Hangover.  For those who don’t know, For Your Consideration-ads are attempts by a studio to get a movie nominated for awards but namely Oscars.  It may sound crazy but with ten Oscar slots open and a more concentrated approach, I don’t think it’s impossible for The Hangover to be out of the game.  Hit the jump to find out why.

FirstShowing.net noticed the ad running on Variety.  However, the site also noted that while The Hangover was asking for consideration in all categories, it was specifically asking for “Best Picture” (Musical or Comedy) which means it’s aiming at a Golden Globe.  Since the Golden Globes is an easy-going shindig, The Hangover has pretty good shot at landing a nomination. »

'Eclipse' Actress' Site Gets Hacked, U2 And More Halloween Costumes In Today's Twitter-Wood

26 October 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

"Eclipse" actress Jodelle Ferland claims that hackers descended on her website, which would explain the disarray currently on display if you visit Jodelle-Ferland.net. Her "Twilight" series costar Ashley Greene seemed to be having a much better weekend, however, taking in the U2 concert at the Rose Bowl Sunday night. Greene was joined by Danny DeVito, Demi Moore, and a host of others who tweeted pictures from the night.

Elsewhere, Tom Felton and Emmy Rossum are still undecided on their Halloween costumes, but Felton has officially nixed a Dalmation outfit and Rossum may be warming up to Pippi Longstocking. Check out what they had to say after the jump along with Edward Norton doing yoga, Billy Burke's "Harry Potter" shout-out and Stephen Fry's new secret video game role. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for October 26, 2009.

A Fish Called Wanda: The Musical!

19 October 2009 2:42 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

John Cleese is turning 'A Fish Called Wanda' into a musical.

The 'Monty Python' comic has revealed his plans to turn the 1988 comedy movie about a jewel heist - which he wrote and starred in alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline - into a stage production.

He said: "One thing I am doing which amuses me immensely is the musical version of 'A Fish Called Wanda'."

The 69-year-old star decided to turn his attention to the stage because he is bored of filming TV documentaries and sitcoms.

He is quoted as saying: "Unless you want to tie yourself up for five years, you basically can do interesting documentaries for which you don't get paid. And it doesn't make much sense doing comedy because once you've done 'Monty Python' and 'Fawlty Towers', almost anything you do people are always going to say, 'Well, it's »

Robert Redford’s ‘The Conspirator’ Adds Six to Cast

16 October 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Wow, where did all the sudden interest in joining Robert Redford’s Abraham Lincoln assassination flick, The Conspirator, come from? Over the last few days a total of six names have been added to the cast list and they are (in alphabetical order): Alexis Bledel (Sin City), Toby Kebbell (RocknRolla), Kevin Kline (A Fish Called Wanda), Justin Long (Drag Me To Hell), Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler) and Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton). The six new additions join the previously announced James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn.

Being directed by Redford from a script by James Solomon, The Conspirator focuses on the real-life Mary Surratt (being played by Penn), one of the alleged co-conspirators of The Lincoln Assassination, as well as focusing on the man, Frederick Aiken (being played by McAvoy), who reluctantly agreed to defend her in court. The film is different from the other Lincoln-related movie in the »

John Cleese on 40 years of 'Monty Python,' 'Fawlty Towers,' and sex!

14 October 2009 3:14 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

It is now 40 years since the legendary and hugely influential comedy show Monty Python's Flying Circus was first broadcast in the U.K. How do we know this? Well, partly because Python member John Cleese is so unbelievably decrepit. "I'm old and incontinent!" laughs the comedian. The Python crew's 40th anniversary is also being marked by a series of events. Tonight the five surviving members (Cleese, Terry Jones, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam) will reunite for an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Tomorrow they will grace (and possibly silly walk across) the stage of New York's »

Monty Python, Thom Yorke And Miley Cyrus As Pocahontas In Today's Twitter-Wood

5 October 2009 4:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

There was a lot to catch up on in Twitter-Wood today after my long weekend, including the 40th anniversary of Monty Python's first appearance on television, which member John Cleese and fan Edgar Wright both noted. Elsewhere, Edward Norton and Danny Masterson had good things to tweet about Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's live solo performance, and Miley Cyrus and Ashley Tisdale joined Paris Hilton among those tweeting their Halloween costume plans for 2009.

There is loads more to check out, though, believe it or not, as James Gunn tweeted a pic of himself offering juice to a horse that may belong to Rainn Wilson and Jeremy Piven posted a behind-the-scene shot of Matt Damon from "Entourage." I can't even summarize it all today, I retweeted so many people. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter-Wood report for October 5, 2009.

Palin Values British History

2 October 2009 5:11 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Monty Python star Michael Palin has urged his fellow Britons to stop feeling ashamed of the U.K.'s colonial past.

The A Fish Called Wanda funnyman insists the British Empire is not something U.K. citizens should apologise for - because it forged links with nations outside of Europe.

He tells Geographical magazine, "If we say that all of our past involvement with the world was bad and wicked and wrong, I think we're doing ourselves a great disservice. We still have links with other countries - culturally, politically, and socially - that we shouldn't forget." »

First-time Emmy nominees include Oscar, Grammy and Tony champs

While some performers are Emmy veterans – like "Damages" star Glenn Close, who made it an even dozen nods today –  others, such as her Oscar-winning costar William Hurt, are new to the dance. Hurt – who won the lead actor Oscar in 1985 for "Kiss of the Spider Woman" and picked up a supporting actor in a drama series Emmy nod today –  is not the only Oscar champ in contention for an acting Emmy for the first time this year. While 1984 best actress Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine("Terms of Endearment") won one of her five Emmy bids for variety specials in the 1970s and 1980s, her nod today as lead actress in a movie or mini-series for "Coco Chanel" is her first recognition by the TV academy for her acting. Streep Nom #7-8: The Abundant Riches of 1987-88

5 July 2009 6:03 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

We've been looking at each Meryl Streep Oscar nod and its competitive field. Previously: 78, 79, 81, 82, 83 and 85

Meryl Streep's first act was the Liberated Lady. The second was The Chameleon in which Meryl was always the lead, always had new hair, voice and body language and basically controlled Oscar's Universe. It was as if there was only 4 spots for Best Actress, one reserved for her in perpetuity. This second act ended with her intense immersion into notorious dingo-hating Lindy Chamberlain in A Cry in the Dark. [Editor's Note: Yes, I'll do a top ten performance list when "Streep at 60" wraps in mid July. I've heard your requests and I've been rewatching all the movies.]

Starting in 1989 Act III of Streep's career began but we'll get to that shortly. First, let's look at her competition in the last two years of her legendary Act II.

1987

the nominees were...

Cher, MoonstruckGlenn Close, Fatal AttractionHolly Hunter, Broadcast NewsSally Kirkland, AnnaMeryl Streep, Ironweed

I've always loved that "Mary Louise" exchange. But is Cher rewriting history to claim Silkwood as her first movie or »

Michael Jackson Twitter-Wood Report: Paris Hilton’s Family Photo And Arnold Schwarzenegger

26 June 2009 11:20 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

The memorial tweets continued long after I checked the Twitter-Wood feed last night and posted the flurry of reactions to Michael Jackson’s death that were showing up. Today, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger offered his condolences and Paris Hilton, in addition to a steady stream of thoughts about the King of Pop’s death, posted a recent family photo taken with Jackson.

There will surely be more before today’s regular Twitter-Wood update goes up later today, but in the meantime, here are the day’s most recent Michael Jackson-related tweets from Jon Favreau, Mariel Hemingway, Michael Ian Black, and others.

@Schwarzenegger We lost a great entertainer and a pop icon. My thoughts and prayers go out to Michael Jackson’s family, friends and fans.

Twitter-Wood: What To Buy In Central Park And Who Failed To Offend Glenn Close

8 June 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

The theme of this week’s Monday in Twitter-Wood seems to be shouting out other celebrities. Whether they’re trying to raise arts awareness, hiking mountain ranges or offending Glenn Close, everyone is talking about everyone else today. Kevin Spacey and Stephen Fry, Fran Drescher and Michael Ian Black. A diverse mix, to say the least.

Whatever everyone is tweeting to and about one another, today’s Twitter-Wood feed comes packed with distinct examples of the best and most menial uses that Twitter has to offer. And that’s okay. Some folks are using it to raise money and awareness for the Old Vic Theatre in London. Others just want to express their love for clowns and unicorns — not that there’s anything wrong with that. Still others are sharing their tips for street vendor deals in Manhattan. I’m Brian Warmoth, and here is Twitter-Wood for Monday, June 8, 2009.

Signatures: Jamie Lee Curtis

17 May 2009 11:18 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Adam of Club Silencio here with another look at my favorite actresses and their distinguishing claims to fame.

Jamie Lee Curtis leads a multitude of magnificent lives. Hollywood Royalty holder, children's author, wife to Christopher Guest, Aarp covergirl and staunch advocate for Activia yogurt. But then that's what she's shown to be so splendid at throughout her revealing and revitalizing career: balancing these many separate lives. It's enough to make anyone scream, but then Jamie Lee Curtis is also the queen of that.

Halloween (1978) / The Fog (1980)

The virginal high school babysitter with the homicidal, immortal brother; the hitchhiker with a past who's sure to put out. Jamie Lee Curtis is like an onion. As she progressed through the 80's we saw her shed layers... and eventually her layers.

A Fish Called Wanda (1988) / Blue Steel (1989)

A street-tough cop and undercover thief are both hard earned women's roles that transcend just just being topless. »

Movies That Deserve a Second Life: Comedy Edition

5 April 2009 10:00 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Welcome to another edition of Movies That Deserve a Second Life. If you need a refresher on what I’m referring to by “second life,” check out the Action/Adventure Edition. If you’re caught up, read on to see what funny flics I felt were unfairly ignored/disliked upon its release or have been forgotten in the years since its release.

Comedy is almost certainly the most subjective of all genres. What makes one person laugh is guaranteed to make another yawn or wrinkle his/her brow. Some find juvenilia in poor taste while others bust a gut. Everyone claims to have a sense of humor, but almost no one enjoys every type of humor there is, from dry wit and pungent satire to bodily fluid gags and intentionally groan-worthy puns. Therefore, I think it’s safe to say that no one (besides myself) will be satisfied with every choice. »

Being the favorite winner of this year's awards season, late Heath Ledger has collected the top prize for his lunatic performance as Joker in "The Dark Knight" as he is named Best Supporting Actor at the 81st Academy Awards. Accepting the award on his behalf were his father, Kim Ledger, his mother, Sally Bell, and his sister Kate Ledger.

Reading off the list of thank you in a calm voice for the acceptance speech, Kim said receiving the award is "ever-so-humbling". Adding to his speech, Sally who called his son an inspiration stated that the family chose to celebrate what Heath has achieved. Meanwhile, Kate confessed that she wishes her brother to accept the award himself, but added that they humbly accept on behalf of his daughter, Matilda.
