It's because of the copyrighting on the majority of the movies that are shown on each episode. Due to the increase of the popularity of the movies that were ridiculed on the show, the original copyright holders of those films increase their value. So Best Brains(The company that did Mystery Science Theater 3000) are doing what they can to pay a sum of money to those movie companies so that way they'll get an A-OK to release their episodes on DVD.
