A masterpiece sorely in need of a DVD release., 26 July 2007

Although Robot Carnival's anthology format and spotlight on music most frequently garners comparisons to Fantasia, I found it to be much more reminiscent of Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg in terms of overall tone. However, Robot Carnival expands it's tone in several segments, and becomes more like a pastiche of popular culture, as well as recalling the progressive works of Hayao Miyazaki and Rintaro and previewing Katsuhiro Otomo's later animated endeavors. While some segments are stronger than others, none are so weak as to be overshadowed or urge you to skip over them. It would certainly be hard to be bored by the incredibly detailed and breathtaking animation, each frame showing the dedication and money put into it.
