Trivia:
There are at least two versions of Michael Sembello's end-credit song. In some versions, dating back to VHS release days, there is a lyric referring to "..the creature swimmin' in the pool". As of 2007, in the recent HD cable release, this is replaced simply by "..the Creature From The Black Lagoon". moreGoofs:
Continuity: When Patrick sits back down in the Scary German Guy's house, he picks up his glass from the coffee table and raises it to take a drink. In the reverse shot, he's just sitting there and instead picks up something small and eats it. moreSoundtrack:

There seems to be two types of reviews for Monster Squad: 1) A fun movie for pre-teens. 2) Bad acting, low budget, lame script = crappy movie.
Though the acting is not "amazing" and the script is not an oscar-winner, this movie is a lot of fun. Who rents a movie starring a bunch of pre-teens and is looking for an incredible story-line?
Monster squad is a great fantasy movie where the pre-teen protagonists duke it out with some "classic movie monsters" from another dimension. With a plot like that....you are either going to smiling or bored when it's over.
I have fond memories of renting the movie and watching it over and over. I look forward to this on DVD to add to my corny-80's collection.
If your 12 year old has not out-grown their imagination, likes a few kiddie scares and pre-teen adventures...find a copy of Monster Squad.
