Joseph Guerrieri (The Jackalope) and Justin Guerrieri are the brains and the legs behind horror film Trail of Blood. A film that is character driven, horrifying, and full of surprises, Trail of Blood is currently in post-production and searching for distribution. To be shown at film festivals beginning in 2010 the Guerrieri brothers have taken the time out from moviemaking to talk to me for all of you about Trail of Blood, the process of filmmaking, life and filming in the Angeles National Forest. Have a look at the interview below and prepare to be soaked in blood once the film is available to fans in 2010.

(Michael Allen) Hi Joseph and Justin thanks for talking about your film Trail of Blood.

'The Howling' to Be Reborn

22 November 2009 9:20 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

A new moon is rising on The Howling franchise.

Producers Joel Kastelberg and Etchie Stroh, the latter of whom is associated with Moonstone Entertainment, are planning a re-launch of the werewolf movie franchise entitled The Howling: Reborn. According to Variety, the film is scheduled to begin shooting next February for a Halloween 2010 release.

The 1981 movie The Howling, which was directed by Joe Dante and scripted by John Sayles, is considered one of the better werewolf movies, along with An American Werewolf in London (also slated for a remake). No word if The Howling: Reborn will be a remake or have any ties to the original, which concerned a news anchor (played by Dee Wallace-Stone) whose stalker turns out to be a werewolf, and an isolated country resort full of other shape-shifting creatures.

Joe Nimziki, who previously worked as a marketing executive, will write and direct the new movie, »

Discuss: When an Actor's Look Gets in the Way

22 October 2009 1:48 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Are you finding it increasingly harder to take the changing physicality of Hollywood actors?

Things change; they grow old, they morph, and sometimes even evolve. It's a fact of life, and usually a good fact of life. But lately, I find myself constantly having to try and ignore certain physical aspects to enjoy a trailer, an image, a film. Rather than absorbing the project, the mood, the plot, I'm trying to blur my eyes so Mr. or Ms. So-and-So doesn't look quite so silly.

On the one hand, of course, it's the plastic surgery. Practically everyone in Tinseltown does something. There's no way everyone has smooth foreheads and bright skin. But when the random nose job or improvement turns into new cheeks, chin, or balloonish lips until the original person is nowhere to be seen, it becomes too much. If this was happening to actors known for morphing into characters, »

A Career-Spanning Conversation with Joe Dante

11 October 2009 4:32 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

We recently published Glenn Kay's interview with Joe Dante discussing the full details on his upcoming film The Hole (read it here). Now, Jason Anders caught up with the director to go back even further. All the way back to 1978, and the recently remade Piranha...

Jason Anders/Fangoria: Let's start with one of your earliest films, 1978's Piranha; what originally inspired you to become involved in filmmaking, and what roads led to you directing one of your first motion pictures, which garnered the respect of major Hollywood names like Steven Spielberg? Also, tell me about the challenges you faced on the production of this film, which was shot in just 30 days.

Joe Dante: I had originally planned to become a cartoonist; it was only during art school that I came to realize I was more inclined toward filmmaking. This was the mid-'60s when the idea of "film school »

Scenes We Love: Innerspace

25 September 2009 4:15 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

In all honesty, it's a bit ridiculous for me to try and pull one scene from Innerspace. If I'm being totally honest, I'd post the entire movie, because there isn't a part that has failed to make me laugh in the last 22 years. I love it, whether we're referring to Martin Short's wacky ways, Dennis Quaid's charm, or simply the idea that a too-cool-for-school pilot could get miniaturized and injected into the most flailing hypochondriac we've ever seen.

I could pick the dance sequence, which taps into classic Ed Grimley moves, the moment in the freezer truck when Tuck manipulates Jack into action, or the ridiculousness of The Cowboy. All are great, but if I have to choose one, it would be the final moment in a collection of scenes where Tuck realizes that he's in a human man, Jack thinks he's going nuts, and how it all »

He's one of the hottest up-and-coming stars in Hollywood, and now "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet is back in theaters again as one of several psychologically fragile astronauts in the sci-fi thriller "Pandorum." But to hear him tell it, Cam's new bride is the one who had the most eventful existence during the film's Germany shoot.

In an interview sure to delight Cam's many "Twilight" Moms, the former vampire and new dad dropped by the MTV News studios earlier this week to talk about geeking out over Dennis Quaid, dealing with morning sickness and his epic quest to find a package of saltines.

MTV: So, Cam, "Pandorum" hits theaters this weekend.

Cam Gigandet: It does!

Review: Did You Ever See... Innerspace?

24 September 2009 2:10 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

This week Pandorum is released in the Us. Directed by Christian Alvart, it’s a sci-fi thriller about two astronauts who wake from a cryogenic sleep on a ship, with no memory of who they are or why they are there.

One of the stars of Pandorum is Dennis Quaid. Quaid’s career has been rejuvenated over the last eight or nine years, beginning in 2000 with Steven Soderbergh's Traffic, and culminating this year with the big budget GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. At 55 years old, he’s finally becoming an in demand A-list star. But it wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Quaid was supposed to take his big step up to the A-list over 20 years ago.

I’ll see you on the other side, and we’ll see that 22 years before he went to outer space in Pandorum, he was sent… Innerspace. »

Ben Foster Opens Pandorum’s Box

22 September 2009 3:26 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Ben Foster’s face is one that many filmgoers have come to know over the past few years. His roles have been many and varied: He was Warren Worthington III (a.k.a. Angel) in X-men: The Last Stand, the sociopathic henchman bent on springing his boss (Russell Crowe) in 3:10 To Yuma and, most recently (and notably to Fango readers), the prophetic Stranger in 30 Days Of Night. And while his name is not a familiar one to your average viewer, that should soon change now that he’s headlining major projects like Pandorum, the sci-fi chiller opening this week from Overture Films.

Directed by AntibodiesChristian Alvart, Pandorum features a diverse cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Twilight bad boy Cam Gigandet, mixed martial arts legend Cung Le and newcomer Antje Traue. Travis Milloy’s screenplay has this ensemble confronting…well, Foster won’t exactly say. “Doing interviews, particularly for »

I Saw A Bunny: R.I.P. Henry Gibson

18 September 2009 9:28 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

I was incredibly saddened to learn this week that Henry Gibson, “Laugh-In” favorite and an extremely versatile character actor, passed away on Monday after a battle with cancer. He was 73. Gibson, who I became very familiar with thanks to Nick-At-Nite and Joe Dante’s classic horror/comedy “The Burbs,” was a comedian whose ability greatly appealed to me, though I still cannot put my finger on why. In addition to brief yet memorable roles in such films as “Wedding Crashers,” “Magnolia,” and “Innerspace,” Gibson also appeared in a string of cult favorites, including “Monster in the Closet,” “Bio-Dome,” and the grossly underrated “Gremlins 2: The New Batch.” He was also the voice of Wilbur in “Charlotte’s Web,” a film that never fails to make me weepy. I wish I was kidding, folks. We’re talking Niagara Falls, each and every time I watch it. The man’s big screen and television credits are endless, »

He ventures towards the bridge in search of others and to try and figure out what happened. Henry Gibson, 1935-2009

17 September 2009 1:33 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The gallery of colorful character actors has lost another one of its most reliable members. Don't feel bad if you don't know the name Henry Gibson, because I suspect that a "supporting" player like Mr. Gibson would take your ignorance as a compliment. Actors like Henry Gibson generally show up 7th or 8th in the opening credits, if they show up there at all, but they excel at two things: Providing flawless support for a lead actor or a big star, and giving movie-watchers a nice comfortable vibe of "Ohhh, this guy! He's been in a dozen flicks I've seen before. No idea who he is, but I'm glad to see him again."

That was Henry Gibson. The frustrated "Illinois Nazi" from The Blues Brothers. The confused grocer in Innerspace. The goofy preacher from Wedding Crashers. He was in Nashville, The Long Goodbye, The Nutty Professor, Magnolia, and The 'Burbs. »

Henry Gibson: An appreciation

17 September 2009 7:46 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Henry Gibson, who died on Monday from cancer at the age of 73, was a fine comedic actor and living pun. (Born James Bateman, his stage name was a tip of the hat to playwright Henrik Ibsen.) Gibson initially became famous in the late '60s with his turns on the satirical comedy show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In and, more recently, portrayed an idiosyncratic judge on Boston Legal. His film credits included The Incredible Shrinking WomanWedding Crashers, and the Blues Brothers, in which he memorably essayed a Nazi. He was also a favorite actor of the director Joe Dante who cast him in Innerspace, the 'burbs, and Gremlins 2. It is an indication of Gibson's talents that another of his Hollywood patrons was the very un-Dante-esque Robert Altman. The late great auteur cast him in a number of films, such as Nashville and A Perfect Couple. But, to me, Gibson will »

Henry Gibson 1935-2009

16 September 2009 11:47 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Henry Gibson, whose name you might not know but whose face you'll almost certainly recognise, has died at home in Malibu, a week before his 74th birthday.Gibson's hangdog expression disguised a great talent for deadpan comedy. His first movie role was in Jerry Lewis' original The Nutty Professor in 1963, and he was a regular on the sketch show Rowan and Martin's Laugh In from 1968 to 1971 alongside Lily Tomlin and Goldie Hawn. One of his characters was a flower-wielding poet, all of whose material was written by Gibson himself.Robert Altman cast him four times, in Nashville, The Long Goodbye, A Perfect Couple and Health, and Joe Dante used him three times, giving him the role of Tom Hanks' nemesis in The 'Burbs, Mr Wormwood in Innerspace, and a cameo in Gremlins 2. Tiff '09 Review: 'The Hole'

16 September 2009 3:34 PM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Back when most of my friends were geeking out over their Mike Schmidt baseball cards or Spider-Man comic books, I was cataloging my own list of favorites. Sure, me and all my neighborhood friends loved baseball, comic books, and video games, but I'm pretty sure I was the only one who knew that Cujo and Cat's Eye were directed by the same guy; that the guy who directed Red Dawn also did Conan the Barbarian; and that Joe Dante was the man to thank for Piranha, The Howling, Gremlins, Explorers, and Innerspace. Obviously none of my pals really cared about this stuff, which is why they're all bankers and doctors whereas I'm a film critic and, um, the manager of a movie blog. It was with no small dose of enthusiasm »

‘The Hole 3D’ is Beloved in Toronto and Venice

15 September 2009 4:01 PM, PDT | MovieSet.com | See recent MovieSet.com news »

The Hole 3D’ Chaos at Tiff We’re paying attention to all the reviews and chatter coming from Tiff but paying extra attention to films we’ve followed throughout production including Joe Dante’s ‘The Hole’ which kicked off the fest by receiving news of winning the inaugural top prize at the Venice 3D Film Festival. Competing against the heavily-promoted ‘Up‘ and ‘Coraline,’ ‘The Hole 3D‘ was considered a long shot but managed to win over the judges with the restrained use of 3D in a live action movie.

The subsequent showing of the film at the Toronto International Film Festival raised everyone out of their seat … due to a fire alarm which required the evacuation of the theater … just before the end of the film! Not sure how it all went down but the Twitters hint at the chaos and frustration resultant from both a projector breaking and the »

In less than six hours from the time I started typing this sentence I will be on a plane leaving sunny Seattle, Washington for 80-degree weather and 70% humidity in the sauna known as San Diego for my fourth trip to the San Diego Comic Con and while this was the week we began looking at the potential Oscar nominees it is also the week we will take a look at next summer's blockbusters. Then again, even Oscar has a presence at this year's Con. Of course, I could make a bit of a stretch citing the attendance from Oscar nominees (and some winners) including Peter Jackson, Denzel Washington, Jackie Earle Haley, Josh Brolin, Robert Downey Jr., Diablo Cody, Jason Reitman, Nicolas Cage, Terry Gilliam, Robert Zemeckis, Jennifer Connelly, Woody Harrelson and Don Cheadle, but I think you all know who I am talking about...
