Just for the record, James Woods' character in "Best Seller" is named Cleve -- another poster mistakenly referred to him as "Clive." I first saw "Best Seller" with my dad during its short-lived run in theaters in the fall of 1987, and ever since it has been a movie we both mention to people when the subject of underrated movies comes up. It's a rare film that works on several different levels. First, it has an intriguing, highly original storyline. Second, it has two terrific main characters who develop a fascinating love-hate relationship. Third, James Woods and Brian Dennehy are perfect in roles they seemed born to play. And finally, at a tight 95 minutes, not a moment is wasted in the film. The result is a fast-paced, hard-edged thriller that's a genuine knockout. What a shame Orion Pictures barely advertised this gripping gem when it was in theaters. If you like action-packed thrillers, "Best Seller" is a must-see.
