Spooky Spooky (1986) is another weird ghost film from action director/actor Sammo Hung. Hung has made many ghost stories (many of them are classics) but this one is one of his best (and seldom seen outside of Hong Kong). I have to list his movie as one of my favorites of the genre. It has everything you can ask for from a ghost story (and more).
The film is begins hundreds of years ago when a young lover is drowned in the middle of a lake. His spirit has never rested and haunts the locals and pulls a lot of unlucky visitors down to the bottom of the lake. Years later we've come to the present day. The drownings have become more frequent and the locals are scared. One cop (Alfred Cheung) finds the setting idyllic and is at ease until he meets the girl of his dreams, a fellow officer (Joyce Godenzi) who has just transfered to the post. The ghost sitings become more intense with her presence. All hell breaks loose one night when the ghost refuses to leave putting everyone in jeopardy. Seeking refuge from the angry ghost the officers flea to a nearby police station but the ghost follows them. Can Alfred , Joyce ,Ma and the other officers survive the night?
Classic ghost film. The film parodies Hung's earlier films, Evil Dead and The Thing. One scene involves a ghost's hand and poor Richard Ng. All of Sammo's and Jackie Chan's Stunt team appearance in this film. The guest stars include Corey Yuen, Yuen Wah, Richard Ng to name a few. A great survival film as well. If you can find a copy I advise you to grab a copy. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it!
Strongest recommendation possible.
