Jerry Stahl's first book, the harrowing memoir Permanent Midnight, tells the story of his life as a successful Hollywood writer living with drug addiction. Beginning his career in the adult film industry, Stahl later began writing scripts for such TV hits as "Moonlighting," "Thirtysomething," and "Alf," jobs that put almost $7,000 a week in his bank account. Moving between $100 Los Angeles lunches and meetings with Cybill Shepherd to dangerous scores in the worst parts of the city, Stahl managed to lose his family, his house, his screenwriting opportunity for the second season of "Twin Peaks," and nearly his life. Permanent Midnight is not for people with delicate sensibilities or any other low thresholds for truth. »

Right now, as I type this Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is nearing one kagillion dollars at the worldwide box office, a total so large it has gone into made up numbers. At this point it’s fairly well documented that I wasn’t a fan of the sequel, so I won’t reiterate how there was no story and most of the critics got it right.
But Transformers got me thinking about how I used to take Soundwave in the tub with me and, while surrounded by bubbles, dive bomb the rubber ducky. Then, after I finished reminiscing about last weekend, I reflected further back to my childhood. Those were the good times before I had responsibilities and other things I procrastinate. However, now that 80’s adaptations are successful in theaters, Hollywood will milk that cash cow dry until we’re all sick of hearing about the toys we »

One of the more memorable and unusual TV shows of the 1980s was Alf. It centers around an alien named Gordon Shumway from the doomed planet Melmac. He crash lands his spaceship into the California garage of the Tanner family, who nickname him Alf (Alien Life Form). The cast of the show includes Max Wright, Anne Schedeen, Andrea Elson, and Benji Gregory, with John Lamotta, Liz Sheridan, Anne Meara, and Paul Dooley. The series ran on NBC for four seasons and 102 episodes.
Alf kept the Tanners quite busy as he was constantly breaking things, trying to eat their cat, and just overall being obnoxious. Filming on the show was apparently a lot to handle as well.
The production details of the series were kept relatively secret during the show's production. Once the series finished airing, many in the cast and crew have conceded that the series was a technical nightmare »

Yet another classic television show, Gilligan's Island, may be headed for the big-screen. There've been numerous movie plans in the past will this one actually be made?
Gilligan's Island was created by Sherwood Schwartz (The Brady Bunch) and follows a diverse group of people who've been shipwrecked. Though there are only 98 episodes, the sitcom became incredibly popular in syndication and the characters have become a part of popular culture. The original castaways are Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Tina Louise, Russell Johnson, and Dawn Wells.
Most of the castaways reunited for different projects over the years, including three TV movies (Rescue from Gilligan's Island, The Castaways on Gilligan's Island, and The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island), two animated series (The New Adventures of Gilligan and Gilligan's Planet), and guest-spots on shows like Alf, Baywatch, and Roseanne.
There's been talk of doing a big screen movie version »
