I was 19 when this movie was released and it made a great impact on me. It was the first time that I really got a sense of passion for a movie, a passion for movies that have remained with me ever since, of curse
Luc Besson has this great visual side with use of light and smoke along with great music that I still love and that make Ridley Scott my favorite director. He also has this twisted character gallery that I can compare with directors like Tarantino, Almodovar, David Lynch, Lars Von Trier
Luc Besson also always has great cast for all his characters, taking his movies to the absolute top. This movie is my favorite Luc Besson movie followed by Nikita (I have also seen The Big Blue, Leon and The Fifth Element)
The stunning visuals of this movie along with the great music, the skilled cast and then the twisted character gallery (that I really found was innovative for its time, 1985) makes me rate it not only 9/10 (great movie) but in fact 10/10 (great and innovative). But with that in mind it is an old movie now and is of curse not any longer innovative with 2004 standards :-)
If I am to compare this movie with any others I am going to mention Blade Runner and Pulp Fiction
