#2 "Sherlock Holmes" ($65.4 million)
#3 "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" ($50.2 million)
#4 "It's Complicated" ($22.1 million)
#5 "Up in the Air" ($11.8 million)
Despite his brilliant deductive reasoning and combat proficiency, Sherlock Holmes proved no match for the Na'vi of Pandora as James Cameron's "Avatar" won first place at the box office for the second weekend in a row. Still, victory wasn't entirely effortless for the 3-D science-fiction epic, as "Avatar" surrendered Wednesday night to the debut of "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" and also succumbed to "Sherlock Holmes" on Friday.
But a closer look at the numbers reveals that "Avatar" never had much to worry about, as the film lost to "Alvin" on Wednesday by a mere $2.4 million and an even smaller

If Santa Claus had visited Genelia D'Souza.s new home in Bandra (West) last night, the patron saint of Christmas might not have left the place... for the Bollywood hottie is looking as festive as the season. A huge star lights up the balcony while a Christmas tree that she lugged down from South Africa, dances with fairy lights. There.s also a crib with a tiny infant Jesus. All signs that Christmas is in the air. And, it is, for this is the only holiday the young and perky actress can spend with her family. .Life has been hectic and I.ve been shooting back-to-back outdoors,. Genelia said. .But Santa heard my prayer and brought me home in time for Christmas. Right since childhood, I haven.t missed out on a single midnight mass with my folks. And last night, we offered our prayers at St Peter.s and

Mariah Carey lifted the spirits of 35 underprivileged children this holiday season — after renting out a recreation centre near her retreat in Aspen, Colorado for an extravagant party.
The Hero hitmaker hired jugglers, magicians and storytellers for the event where kids hailing from Denver were able to use the climbing wall, the pool and ice skating rink.
The children got an extra special treat when Carey and her husband Nick Cannon showed up in a reindeer-led sleigh with Santa Claus — and posed for pictures with the kids.

Jade Goody's sons have marked their first Christmas without their mother by sending special cards to her in heaven. Bobby, 6, and Freddy, 5, left their hand-written messages out on Christmas Eve in the hope that Santa Claus would make the special delivery. Their father, presenter Jeff Brazier, told The Sunday Mirror that the boys took some comfort from the idea that Goody would be reading their letters. Freddy wrote: "Dear Mummy, I'm missing you. 12 Action Movies Set During Christmas Season

Christmas is supposed to be a time of giving, peace and good will towards men. But in Hollywood, its also a time for death, destruction and nearly every form of mayhem. Throughout the 80's 90's and (soon to be history) 00's more and more action films seem to take place during “the most wonderful time of the year”. Whether it be a heist, monster invasion or assault by pirates, so much onscreen action occurs on this jolly day that it's a miracle ole Saint Nick isn't killed in the crossfire. Here are just a few action films where Christmas is actually the last thing on the minds of characters fighting for their lives.Batman Returns (1992) Set during the Christmas season where a tree lighting ceremony in Gotham City serves as a battleground for the struggle between Batman (Michael Keaton), The Penguin (Danny DeVito) and Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). For me, it was a toss-up between The Office and Modern Family this year. The Dundler-Mifflin Christmas party was sort of like Halloween in that the outfits were so festive they could have counted as costumes. Stanley the mailman's Christmas sweater was the best, though the Dunphys' knit-based monstrosities on Modern Family, issued on high via webcam from half of Fred Willard's face, were a bit louder. Don't miss this holiday greetings e-card from 20th Century Fox, featuring two executives posing as a Modern Family married couple along with confessionals from the real Mf cast.

Top Ten Worst Movies of 2009
**Disclaimer** This list is for entertainment purposes only. No studio is safe. No actor is safe. No movie is safe! You have been warned. What's more fun to read, the best movies of the year, or the crappiest movies of the year? I know as a writer, I Love listing the worst movies of the year. And 2009 had some pretty big stinkers. From failed comedies, (what a shock that a Kate Hudson movie would make the list two years in a row) to failed action flicks to unwatchable "arthouse", 2009 served up a big ol plate of dog crap. So sit back, relax and see if you agree with any of my choices. Yes, I'm well aware that there are 500 million movies out there that went straight to DVD. I'm only listing theatrical releases. I'm sure there are plenty of films I've missed or just didn't see.

Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa PawsDisney, Rs 599 Rating: ***
We may be a bit tired of cute movies in which dogs can talk, but that doesn’t mean the kids care.
This film, released before last year’s Christmas season, takes the old story line of ‘No one believes in Christmas any more so Santa plans to do something about it’ to its canine limits.
Mr Claus’ dog Santa Claus (obviously) isn’t the focus of the film — the posse called The Buddies are.
These are Christmas-sceptic mutts who along the journey to the North Pole recover their belief in two

Bryan Singer, who
directed the two good X-Men films, is
coming back to direct X-Men: First Class,
which is
evidently an origin story about Professor Xavier’s first students.
Obviously, all the original actors except Patrick
Stewart are going to be way too old to play themselves in this, so I
suppose we’re looking at an all-new cast of hot actors. Singer’s always had
excellent taste in hot men. Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, and Angel are who need

The cast of the U.S. version of Shameless is
starting to take shape. We already knew William H. Macy was Frank, but now we find out Emily Rossum will pick up the Fiona role, Allison Janney (goddess) will play a role that sounds like Sheila,
maybe, and Justin Chatwin will be
Steve, originated by hunky James McAvoy.
The cast is stellar, other than Chatwin,

Most Christmas specials are colorful and saccharine. That's not a bad thing, of course. It's brought us the wonders of Rudolph, the jolly ho-ho-ho of Santa Claus. But sometimes it's nice to have a sliver of darkness, something beyond Charles Dickens' ghostly look at the past, present, and future. Like, for example, a wholly different other-worldly fellow, one much more sinister with his palindrome name, teamed with sea creatures in the brew and messages to Diane.
Yes, a little blip of Twin Peaks-themed Christmas. After the jump you can watch a Lynchian "12 Days of Christmas." This is not a retro spoof. Recorded for Kroq, it features the famous characters from David Lynch's TV series and movie. Cooper, Lucy, Bob, Bobby, Johnny, and Pete Martell. The song was only commercially available in La, and popped up on radio stations across the country in 1990 (although I never heard it

The holidays are a time for memories. Memories of hot drinks and cold snowy nights, memories of family and friends coming together to experience the joys of the season, and memories of those magical moments as a child when you think you hear the rustle of Santa Claus as he slips down the chimney.
Well, those are the holiday memories of normal folks. We here at FEARnet tend to remember things a little…differently. My favorite holiday memory does involve a fat man with a big white beard, however, his name is William Gaines.
William Gaines, for those of you who don't know (and shame on you), was the publisher of EC Comics, spawning such titles as Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, and a

With Christmas coming around the corner, Katy Perry has changed her profile picture on Twitter with Santa-themed photo. Wearing a red Santa hat and wrapping herself with Christmas lights, the "I Kissed a Girl" hitmaker is seen topless.
The singer, who is currently dating Russell Brand, is featured covering her nude breasts by folding her arms across her chest. In order to get more into the holiday spirit, Katy has also uploaded a picture of bearded Santa Claus with two crying children sitting on his lap on the background.
Katy Perry has started working on her next studio album, teaming with Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and The-Dream. Movies set at Christmastime have been a long tradition; who can resist all that great imagery, lights, snow, Santa Claus, Christmas trees, wrapped presents, candy, stockings, etc.? (It even looks good in black-and-white.) But for every It's a Wonderful Life, there have been other movies with decidedly darker dealings, sometimes set directly in contrast with the bright holiday season.
1. 'R Xmas (2001)
Combine the words "Abel Ferrara" and "Christmas" in the same sentence and you're bound to come up with a heartwarming holiday tale like this one. A well-to-do wealthy Latin American couple (Lillo Brancato Jr. and Drea de Matteo) spends the days before Christmas trying to track down the hottest new doll for their daughter (Lisa Valens) as well as packaging and selling a shipment of heroin. They're just your typical, happy New York family, until the husband is kidnapped. Ice-t plays the kidnapper. 'R Xmas is very poorly regarded

Rev Rosenthal, the Anglican Church’s expert on the patron saint of children and the imprisoned, said that the presents were donated by several churches in the London area and that the visit (more)
