Cheerful 1980's comedy about Naval recruits who have just completed their basic training. They use their last three days of freedom to have as much fun as they can before each going their separate ways.
No better and no worse than the average youth-oriented 80's comedy, this is bound to disappoint some viewers. That's at least if you're expecting the raunchiness and outrageousness common to most of this genre. This film will ultimately prove to be too harmless for their tastes. The sex quotient is rather toned down, and even doses of bare female flesh may be too fleeting to be that satisfactory. It's not even that funny, although it does have some mildly amusing moments. The segment with one of the four squaring off against a former crony and his old gang thankfully doesn't get all that dramatic, although it's really one strong indicator that this film isn't going the traditional route of constant lowbrow humor. One of the four is an aspiring stand up comedian, which leads to an amateur night at a comedy club sequence that could have benefited from better stand ups. Not even the presence of a pre-stardom Phil Hartman helps all that much.
That said, it's at least reasonably likable. Our four seamen may come off as a little obnoxious at first - Chip McAllister as "Bunker" Hill, Patrick Houser as Webster Adams, D.W. Brown as Paul Fricker, and Peter Ellenstein as Lester Gidley - but they never overdo it or become caricatures. Then again, that may be just another problem for folks expecting more colorful characters. The girls are all rather appealing and of course strikingly attractive, and there's a pleasing sequence at a strip club, but as I've said, the sex quotient isn't as strong as in more popular entries in the 80's sex comedy genre.
In the end, it may be just a little too serious for its own good. It's a watchable film, but too forgettable in the end.
