Dom DeLuise, the jovial comedy star who brightened up many a Mel Brooks movie, has died at the age of 75.The actor passed away on Monday evening at St. John’s Health Centre in Santa Monica, surrounded by his wife, Carol, and their three sons, Peter, Michael and David.The portly funnyman was best-known for his energetic appearances in several Brooks films, including Silent Movie, History Of The World Part I and, of course, Blazing Saddles, where he appeared near the end, conducting the film’s infamous ‘French Mistake’ dance number.“Dom DeLuise was a big man in every way," said Brooks, in a statement. “He was big in size and created big laughter and joy. Dom DeLuise Passes Away at 75

Actor Dom DeLuise passed away Monday night in a Los Angeles hospital, at the age of 75.

The actor is best known for his roles in such comedies alongside Burt Reynolds like The Cannonball Run, Cannonball Run II, Smokey and the Bandit and Smokey and the Bandit II.

"Dom always made everyone feel better when he was around," Burt Reynolds said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight, who confirmed the news of DeLuise's passing. "I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I will miss him very much."

DeLuise is also well-known for appearing in several Mel Brooks comedies such as Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs. DeLuise is survived by his wife, actress Carol Arthur, and three sons, actors Peter, David and Michael. »
