The original Murdoch, Dwight Schultz will appear in the new A-Team

12 November 2009 3:30 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Dwight Schultz is making a cameo appearance in the new 'A-Team' movie.

The actor - who starred as 'Howlin' Mad' Murdoch in the original cult 1980s TV series - has been filming scenes for the big-screen remake and has heaped praise on his successor, Sharito Copley, for his portrayal of the character.

A statement on Dwight's official website said: "We are pleased to inform you all that Dwight has actually already been working in Vancouver, where he has played a cameo role in 'The A-Team  movie.

"Sharlto Copley, the South African actor who plays Murdoch, is according to Dwight: 'brilliant beyond words'.

"Dwight has seen his screen test and he stated: that honestly, if Sharlto is given an opportunity to do what I saw in that test, Murdock will be better than ever!'

"Sharlto has been very kind to him on the set and Dwight must say that »

Geek Gossip: Black Swan, Spider-Man 4, The Hobbit, The A-Team

10 November 2009 5:25 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Winona Ryder (pictured) is in talks to star in Darren Aronofsky's supernatural thriller Black Swan, it's been confirmed.

Set in the New York City ballet world, the story centres on a dancer (Natalie Portman) vying for the lead role in Swan Lake; she encounters a mysterious rival (Mila Kunis) who appears to be some kind of doppelganger or apparition.

Ryder will play a fellow ballerina. Vincent Cassel and Barbara Hershey will also join the cast, according to Slashfilm.

Rachel McAdams is in talks to play antihero/love interest Black Cat in Spider-Man 4, according to a report on Mania.

The site also claims a new male villain is being cast in the film. This could mean that Dylan Baker's character Curt Connors would not finally become reptilian baddie the Lizard, because Baker is already in the cast.

The rumours developed today with news that 27-year-old British actress Romola Garai »

-- Let the speculation begin. "Howling Mad" Murdock actor Dwight Schultz will be showing up for a cameo in Joe Carnahan's "The A-Team," according to a fansite. Hopefully, this means we'll be seeing other cameos from the rest of the team. Who doesn't want to see Mr. T give this young guns A-Team a vote of confidence with a tiny cameo role. Hell, he can leave his gold chains at home if it makes him happy. Schultz is great, but the fans want what they want: bring back T. (The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite, via Cinematical)

-- "Mad Men" producer Matthew Weiner is turning his attention to film now that the latest season is finished. He's now getting set to helm "You Are Here," a romantic comedy that he wrote. The A-Team To Feature Members of Original A-Team?

10 November 2009 4:44 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

For me, the most exciting part of the cast for Joe Carnahan’s film adapation of The A-Team is the addition of Sharlto Copley (District 9) who’s playing the most challenging role of the team as Capt. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock. I think he’s absolutely perfect for the role and from everything we’ve heard about him on set for this and his debut role in D-9, it looks like it’s true.

Do you know who agrees with me? Well, the original Murdock of course, played by Dwight Schultz, who has seen Copley’s screen test describing it as “brilliant beyond words.” Better yet, Schultz will be appearing in the movie in a cameo role and is already on set in Vancouver.

See the report from the official Dwight Schultz fansite below.

For those of you out there who were worried that none of the original A-Team cast would be appearing in the new A-Team movie, fear not as The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite have confirmed that Dwight himself has been in Vancouver on the set of the new movie filming a cameo and also commented that Sharlto Copley, who reprising the famous role is ‘brilliant beyond words’.

Their statement below:

'A-Team' Film Will Feature Cameo by Original Series Actor

9 November 2009 9:20 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Actor Dwight Schultz, who played "Howling Mad" Murdock on the original A-Team series, revealed some interesting info on his official site recently. Repeatedly asked if he would have a cameo in the new A-Team feature film, the actor confirmed — through the folks running his site — that he would.

"We are pleased to inform you all that Dwight has actually already been working in Vancouver, where he has played a cameo role in The A-Team movie," sources for the site stated.

Apparently Schultz met Sharlto Copely (District 9), who is playing Murdock in the movie, and called the South African actor "brilliant beyond words," and adding that if he is as great as he was during the screen test, "Murdock will be better than ever."

We're not quite sure why series-to-feature remakes typically offer token appearances to original series cast members; whether it's a tip of the hat or an attempt »

Original A-Team Making Cameos in New Movie?

9 November 2009 2:45 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I'm not going to pretend like I had any kind of a reaction to the initial news that Joe Carnahan was remaking The A-Team. I have no sentimental attachment to the original show from the '80s, nor do I have much affection for Carnahan's filmography. That said, once the film cast Liam Neeson, 'Rampage' Jackson, Bradley Cooper and Sharlto Copley as its crew of wrong war vets doing good while on the run, I was in. However, those who weren't too fond of the news of yet another pop culture staple getting re-manufactured by Hollywood might like to know that the original "A-Team" will be popping up in the reboot.

Well, at least one of them will. The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite is reporting the actor, who played the original 'Howling Mad' Murdock, has been on location in Vancouver filming his undisclosed role in the picture, which will be »

Idris Elba Interview at McM Expo

2 November 2009 10:40 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

This weekend the streets around the Excel Centre in East London were filled with geeks, gamers, movie-buffs and cos-players, as the McM Expo once more rolled into town.

It’s still a fairly intimate affair, but since its inception in 2002 the Expo has grown from a collectors’ show into a genuinely important, biannual event for the UK anime, comic, computer game and film industries.

One of the highlights of the show this time round was Optimum Releasing’s promotion for their forthcoming film, The Losers.

Based on the comic by writer Andy Diggle and artist Jock, the film tells the story of a team of Special Forces operatives who are turned on by their CIA handlers. The comic itself is a re-jig of a World War II-set comic that ran during the seventies and early eighties.

During the course of the day, Optimum provided Expo attendees with various treats, including »

Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassin’s Ball Trailer Starring Vinnie Jones

28 October 2009 11:02 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

I still haven't seen Joe Carnahan's Smokin' Aces, but the high energy hitman flick it seems to have a fair amount of fans out there. (Personally I always thought it looked like a Guy Ritchie knockoff, but maybe I'm wrong on that.) At any rate, the film was apparently popular enough to warrant a direct-to-dvd sequel... er, I mean, prequel. Joe Carnahan obviously has better things to do with his time (like directing The A-Team, for example), but he is still credited as executive producer on Smokin' Aces 2: Assassin's Ball. The actual director of this flick, unfortunately, is P.J. Pesce -- the same man behind such memorable Dtv flicks as Lost Boys: The Tribe and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter. None of the big name original cast members are returning for this film, but Tommy Flanagan will reprise his role as Lazlo Soot, and »

The New A-Team: Take a Good, Long Look

Do they make the grade? In the upcoming big-screen reboot of The A-Team, it's not just the old van that's getting upgraded. Playing falsely accused Iraq war vets on the run, Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson join forces with District 9's Sharlto Copley and mixed martial artist Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, who takes on the role originally played by the one and only Mr. T. We planned to pity the fool who tried to replace Mr. T, before realizing Rampage could probably unleash a death kick through the Internet. The A-Team | First Official Look

26 October 2009 9:12 AM, PDT | SmellsLikeScreenSpirit | See recent SmellsLikeScreenSpirit news »

So far we've seen a few on-set shots that have surfaced to the internet, but today we get the first polished look at the new rendition of The A-Team. This posed still is pretty cool if you ask this 31 year old fanboy. From left to right we have Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck, Quinton Jackson as Sgt. Bosco ‘B.A.’ Baracus, Sharlto Copley as Capt. H.M. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock, and finally Liam Neeson stepping into the shoes of the Special Forces team framed for a crime they didn't commit. I know I'm one of those people who constantly bitches and moans about all the remake/re-envisioning that Hollywood has been doing this decade, but looking at this I can't help but get a speckle of anticipation. I mean look at the casting that was done here and the filmmakers who are involved (director Joe Carnahan, producers Tony Scott & Ridley Scott, »

First Look At The A-Team!!

26 October 2009 4:10 AM, PDT | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

Apart from being heady with excitement that the film version of The A-Team is finally taking shape (or is that just the Monday morning caffeine talking?), we're also all a bit shook up by the first photo to be released of the foursome in action, and in particular, the uncanny likeness of Liam Neeson to George Peppard in the role of Hannibal. Now is that freaky or what?

Neeson, together with Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson and Sharlto Copley certainly look the part, but we'll have to wait until July 30, 2010 to see if the boys can deliver the goods.

First Look At The A-Team

24 October 2009 8:53 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

A few on-set shots have already been snapped, but here at last is the first look at the new line-up of The A-Team, with Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson and Sharlto Copley stepping into the shoes of the Special Forces team framed for a crime they didn't commit but still determined to stay one step ahead of the law.As you can see from this posed still, they certainly look the part. Squint at Neeson and you'd swear he was George Peppard back among us; Copley also looks eerily right. Whether they can recreate the spirit of the old team, while also building a flame-throwing tank out of 3 used toothbrushes and an empty yogurt carton remains to be seen, but we wouldn't bet against them. The A-Team is out on July 30, 2010. »

The First Official Photo From 'The A-Team'

23 October 2009 3:45 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

We've had a lot of unofficial parparazzi shots of The A-Team and their van, but now you can go into your weekend having seen the real deal, courtesy of Salon Del Mal. Try to contain your excitement, as no one around you is going to understand it. Just keep the joy to yourself, and then when a coworker or friend says "Oh my God, did you see that official photo of The A-Team?", you can talk freely.

In all seriousness (well, as serious as one can get), this photo is kind of creepy. I have to echo Drew McWeeny of HitFix, who declared that Liam Neeson looked like he was wearing a George Peppard Halloween costume. I have to extend that to the entire cast, especially Sharltro Copley as Howling Mad Murdock. With all their talk of going dark and gritty, I expected the cast and crew of this would »

A-Team - Video from set of the TV remake with Rampage, Cooper, Neeson and Copley

22 October 2009 11:20 AM, PDT | MovieSet.com | See recent MovieSet.com news »

The nuanced reporters from Entertainment Tonight visited the set of ‘The A-Team” filming in Vancouver and posted a short video of Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, Sharlito Copley and Rampage Jackson re-inventing the characters from the 80’s TV series along with Jessica Biel for some visual variety.

Interviewer Kevin Frazier asks what is (apparently to someone) “the big question” ergo: “Is there an A-Team love story?”

Huh? Collider seems to agree with me about the lightweight~ness/cheesiness factor of the interview, saying, “there is about 5 seconds worth watching.”

Anyhow, sit through the ads to watch a few seconds of action and a lot of sit-down conversation with Cooper talking about his clothes (Donna Karan in jest) and diet (boiled chicken, brown rice and brocolli) and Jesscia Biel discussing relationships [Jessica explains, "We sort of leave it kind of to the imagination as to where it could go at the end of the film. We give you a little hint about who did who wrong, but I think we both feel that we're right."] Hmmm did i miss something here? Isn’t this an action movie?

As you know by now, … Liam Neeson plays team leader Hannibal, »

The First A-Team Set Footage Hits!

22 October 2009 9:10 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Entertainment Tonight visited the set of Joe Carnahan's The A-Team and just made their first video available! Get a glimpse of what Face (Bradley Cooper), BA (Quinton Jackson), and Murdoch (Sharlto Copley) look like in the 21st Century. Watch it now below...

In the original, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries.

The Middle East will replace Vietnam as the place the four did their tour of duty, but Carnahan said the origin story is the jumping-off point.

The original series, which ran from 1983-87 and starred George Peppard, Mr. T, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz, followed an unofficial team of Vietnam vets who will stop at nothing to get the bad guys. Sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit, these four commandos escaped from a maximum-security stockade and now survive in the Los Angeles underground as soldiers of fortune. »
