I had the opportunity to see this rare sleeper back in -84 in VHS-format. In Finland it was called: "Paluu Menneeseen" translation: return to the past. I remembered only glimpses from this film years after, and it has haunted me since childhood.
Next Of Kin (1982) is a well directed mystery/thriller, I wouldn't call it a horror film, of course there's some horror elements in it though. But this time there's a good story, good actors and a decent budget. Some great cinematic moments, the music score is, well, fitting but not great, some parts work really well. The atmosphere is haunting and gets very tense towards the end.
I'm not so familiar with Australian horror-genre, but this must be one of those classics you just have to see.
I'm glad to inform, that this gem is available on DVD with a fair enough transfer, Australian release only (region 4)
Well, I bought mine from e-bay, and were thrilled to watch it again after 23 years. And still it was very good!
