A wonderful family movie, 21 April 2005
9/10
Author: TheFiendsThatPlagueThee from United States

I first saw this movie in the winter of 1982 on television. I didn't want to watch it, but was outvoted in the choice of television shows that night. From the moment I saw it though, I loved this movie. It deals well with the emotional struggle to work past the death of a loved one, and the reluctance to trust or love anyone after such an incident.

Maureen Stapleton is excellent as the robotic grandmother, and Tara Kennedy portrays a hurt and angry young girl very well. The passage of time with its resulting frailties is shown against the constancy of love in a subtle yet powerful way.

The soundtrack is absolutely delightful! The tune is one of those that stuck in my head from 1982 until I saw this movie again in 2004, and haunts me. All in all, I think this must be one of the most underrated family films of all time.
