Trivia:
By his own admission, director Paul Schrader says that one day he got so stoned on set that he refused to come out of his trailer. A whole day's filming was lost. moreGoofs:
Crew or equipment visible: During the leopard autopsy scene, when Oliver is moving the "dead" cat from the wheeled cart to the autopsy table, he lets the cat's head bump down a little hard onto the metal table. Off camera you can hear someone say, "Easy!" as an admonishment to be more careful with the cat. This is most apparent in the DVD version. moreSoundtrack:

Young Nastassja Kinski discovers she bears the curse of the panther and when she makes love she turns into a panther and can not return to human form until she kills. Things are further complicated when brother McDowell shows up and claims she can only make love to him, so that she won't have to kill. Techinally; very, very well done, and Kinski is great and the score terrific. The problem is the film is very slow moving and becomes boring and the film is cold and devoid of emotion. Plus it is overlong. Rating: 7 out of 10.
