A traveling group of medieval performers, the main attraction being knights on motorcycles, is falling apart at the seams as the performers either crack under the pressure of mean cops, bouts with near fame and emotional problems. The group's leader, the self-styled "King" Billy (Ed Harris) has grown increasingly unstable over the years, to the point that he's failing to see the differences between the shows and real life. Because of his deteriorating mental state and continually losing touch with reality, Billy is unable to manage the group, and his "champion", Alan (Gary Lahti) strikes out on his own to make a new life for himself with his girlfriend, while the Black Knight (Tom Savini) abandons the group for Hollywood stardom. As the group members question themselves, Billy's personal quest for redemption and reconnection with his lost members could very well lead him to ruin and self-destruction.
