Trivia:
Throughout the final scene, the mummified head of Mrs. Voorhees is noticeably an actress wearing makeup rather than a fake head. The final shot is a close-up of the head, ending in a freeze frame before the credits roll. Originally this shot ended with Mrs. Voorhees opening her eyes and smiling, but at the last minute Steve Miner decided this effect was hokey and cheapened the movie's impact. moreGoofs:
Revealing mistakes: When Terry is searching for Muffin, her tiny dog, she looks directly into the point-of-view camera that is supposed to be Jason's perspective, and significantly taller than her. She then calls out "Muffin?", as if expecting the dog to be higher than her eye level. moreFAQ
When Alice gets in the shower, it seems the time it takes her is way too short, even for just rinsing off. Why does she seem to end her shower right before the phone rings, and it appears that she was getting out anyway?Do any animals die in this movie?
Jason was still 11 at the end of the original when he emerged from the lake. If there were only five years in between the first and second films, how could Jason have become full grown - especially since he hadn't grown at all while in the lake?

So many refer to this as the debut of Jason Voorhees. It wasn't...simply the debut of him killing people. He left that to his mom in part one! Steve Miner didn't mess around too much with Sean Cunninham's successful formula simply adding some quite inventive kills and bloodletting.
No-one could be accused of using method-acting here, truth is its all pretty embarrassing. The high-school script though probably isn't that much out of place - they are schoolkids after all.
Jason himself, though still slightly diminished of stature is one creepy little dude, still without his hockey mask but wearing a burlap sack with holes cut out for his eyes. What appears to be his demise is of course anything but...as parts 3 to 10 will attest. The final 15 minutes are quite tension-filled and better than anything in the original.
A must-see for devotees of the series.
