At a recent film festival over the weekend, genre favorite William Lustig dropped some really interesting news regarding two of his properties while accepting a well deserved lifetime achievement award. We warned you not to go out tonight!
Bloody Disgusting was in attendance and brought back the following tidbit:
"We already made a deal for the remake of 'Maniac' - there is a remake of 'Maniac' thats on its way, believe it or not. That deal is already closed. Now, Larry and I are in discussions for the remake of 'Maniac Cop'. We're not gonna be involved, but we'll collect a check. Actually, on the remake of 'Maniac', it's gonna say produced by William Lustig, but I'm going to have the least amount of involvement as a producer on the movie."

The first that I heard of Frank Henenlotter was on a perfectly awful cable tv show that aired on Manhattan's Public Access channel in the 1970s.
"The Nikki Haskell Show" was a self-indulgent half-hour cable show hosted by Haskell, a wealthy socialite-divorcee and former stockbroker who now claims that her show marked the invention of "reality television." About a year ago, after her diet pill company got in trouble with the NFL over a "secret ingredient" that should have been labeled, Haskell signed up for an account at YouTube and started posting clips from the 30-year-old program, but she seems to have lost interest after posting just ten of them.
The main reason I'd tune in Haskell's silly show was the programming that followed it, "adults only" programming like Screw magazine publisher Al Goldstein's "Midnight Blue," porn performer Robin Bird's "Hot Legs" show featuring New York's leading "dance talent" and,

A veritable feast for fans of horror and dark fantasy, this month's New York City Horror Film Festival will host more than 50 films and shorts at the Tribeca Cinemas. The festival boasts works from F. W. Murnau and William Lustig, as well as the new film Sweatshop. Our readers should take particular interest in Sweatshop, as two of the men behind it are Icons friends Ted Geoghegan as writer, and America's Baddest Kid John Torrani in a producer role. Sweatshop shows on November 20, and I'll be there to cover the event for Icons.
Come out and show your support for Sweatshop and other horror films at the Nychff, a festival dedicated exclusively to horror lovers.

The Nychff is taking place this November in the Big Apple, and not only are they showcasing a solid horror line-up, they're also presenting a lifetime achievement award to one of our own.

The organizers of the New York City Horror Film Festival have announced the movies they’re presenting in the 2009 edition. The fest runs Thursday-Sunday, November 19-22 at the Tribeca Cinemas (54 Varick Street at Canal Street), with an opening-night party Wednesday the 18th at 8 p.m. at Blvd (199 Bowery near Spring Street).
The lineup of features includes:
• Blood Night: The Legend Of Mary Hatchet, Frank Sabatella’s urban legend-inspired teen-terror feature co-starring Bill Moseley and Danielle Harris
• Cornered!, directed by Daniel Maze, in which a group of poker-playing buddies are trapped and slaughtered in a convenience store by a masked slasher
• Maidenhead, from writer/director James Spanos, starring The House Of The Devil’s A.J. Bowen as a young man dealing with a new love and a very bad dad (Michael Parks)
• Must Love Death, a black-comic shocker about a suicidal man embroiled with homicidal maniacs, shot in English

It's time again for the NYC Horror Film Festival which runs from November 18-22 and will be held at the Tribeca Cinemas located at 54 Varick St and Canal St. What's playing you ask?
The Aj Bowen (The Signal) starrer which looks like a sweet arthouse vampire flick called Maidenhead. (trailer) This seems to have disappeared shortly after it's announcement over a year ago, so I'm glad it's getting some play!
Another gem is the weird horror comedy Must Love Death (review) which I'm still dying to see.

Halloween is coming, and fright flicks are everywhere at repertory houses and special showings. Joining the screening events we previously listed here and here are more big-screen revivals of classic fear films, plus a couple of East Coast Zombie Walks!
• Canadian undead fans can take part in the 7th Annual Toronto Zombie Walk, which takes place Saturday, October 24 beginning at 3 p.m. This one starts at Trinity Bellwoods Park (meeting place is the pit between Dundas Street and, appropriately enough, Gore Vale Avenue) and ends at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor Street West), where the festivities continue with a Cinema of the Dead double feature of Thom Eberhardt’s Night Of The Comet and Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. Admission to the movies is $16 for ghouls and $20 for regular humans; more info on the Walk can be seen here, and on the screenings here.

A few months back, a band local to my hometown of Chicago popped up on my radar, and I still don't know how I'd missed them for so long. With a decadent sound reminiscent of Motley Crue and Buckcherry (both of whom they've toured with!) The Last Vegas adds some Windy City-flavor to a a style of rock that sounds right at home on the Sunset Strip of Los Angeles.
Since checking out the April release of their new album Whatever Gets You Off, frontman Chad Cherry and I have been exchanging emails and it turns out he's a 100% certified horror freak and Fango fiend. After a recent exchange in which Chad was flipping through Fangoria #285 while waiting to catch a flight to L.A., it was apparent that it was time for a Tla installment of Fangoria Musick's Lists Of Doom.

Rapper-turned-filmmaker R.A. Thorburn, a.k.a. “The Rugged Man” and the producer/co-writer of Frank Henenlotter’s Bad Biology, dropped Fango a line with details and some gruesome set photos (see ’em below) from his first feature as a director. Titled God Take, God Give, it’s “an insane mockumentary,” according to Thorburn, based on the life of his father, Staff Sgt. John A. Thorburn.
“He was a highly decorated war hero who survived many government-funded secret missions in Vietnam,” he tells us, “only to come home affected by Agent Orange, which caused serious complications with some of his children and grandchildren. The scene pictured is based on some of the wilder stories surrounding his life; it was once rumored that he escaped a mental hospital and went on a killing spree. Troma recently put out The Last Horror Film on DVD (full details Here) and they pointed us over to this great video with legendary FX guru Tom Savini and Sal Sirchia talking about and remembering the late actor and star of The Last Horror Film & Maniac, Joe Spinell. Sirchia was a very good friend of Spinell's dating back to the late 70's and is the one who found him on the night that he died. Enjoy these great stories of the legendary actor!

After a year of planning, the schedule for the East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors convention, which will be held this coming June 5-7 (three monstrous days!) at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets; use Javits’ Crystal Pavilion entrance; panels and vendors’ area are in Hall 1-d), is ready to be unveiled. All guests/events listed here are tentative.
More stars are still joining the fun at this late stage, so expect a few surprises all weekend long. Details for the jam-packed film schedule (Room ID05 in Hall I-d), including several world premieres and more unannounced bonus guests, can be found here. Wrong Turn 3 director Declan O’Brien will be previewing his new Fox DVD splatter sequel at the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. O’Brien (pictured below with friend), the director of the Sci Fi Channel original movies Rock Monster, Monster Ark and Cyclops, will debut exclusive clips from Wrong Turn 3 (about another group of lost travelers facing off against inbred hillbilly maniacs) at the convention on Sunday.
In addition to his directing chores, O’Brien has also scripted Harpies, The Snake King and Savage Planet for Sci Fi. Stop by this site again over the next couple of days as we begin posting the full schedules (auditorium panels and film programs) for the Fango show.

30 Days Of Night actor Ben Foster (pictured below), star of the upcoming sci-fi thriller Pandorum, has joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. Foster, who also won raves for his roles in 3:10 To Yuma and X-men: The Last Stand (as Angel), will be joined on Saturday by Pandorum co-star Cung Le, the three-time world champion martial artist.

Monster metalheads Gwar will be invading the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. Bandmates Sleazy P. Martini, Slave, Jizmak Da Gusha and Oderus Urungus will be on hand all three days (at their “human skin” booth), and host a panel on Sunday in their human guises (Don Drakulich, Matt Maguire, Brad Roberts and Dave Brockie).

Friday The 13th’s Mrs. Voorhees, actress Betsy Palmer, and her “son,” Jason actor Kane Hodder from the series’ seventh through 10th installments, have joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The event will be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. Fan favorite Palmer also appeared in The Fear: Resurrection and Bryan Norton’s Penny Dreadful, while Hodder stalked through Hatchet, B.T.K.
