Jamie Foxx Bringing Back Wanda Is Nothing New: Here Are Five Other Cross-Dressing Oscar Winners

Yesterday, I saw a lot of people calling for Jamie Foxx's Oscar to be revoked following the announcement that he and Martin Lawrence are confirmed for "Sheneneh and Wanda," a comedy in which the duo will play female bank robbers. Both roles are based on earlier cross-dressed characters from the actors' TV days (Lawrence's Sheneneh is from "Martin" and Foxx's Wanda is from "In Living Color"). Foxx, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2004 for "Ray" (he was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor that same year for "Collateral), returning to this drag shtick seems like a huge step backward to a lot of people.
"Seems" is the key word here, though, because it doesn't have to be a regression. Plenty of Oscar-caliber actors have cross-dressed before and since being nominated and/or winning an Academy Award, and plenty of performers have won for dressing like the opposite sex.

The Lgbt community has another reason to thank Bea Arthur for being a friend: Yesterday, the Ali Forney Center, a New York safe shelter for homeless gay youths, announced that the late, great Golden Girl left $300,000 to them in her will.
The Ali Forney Center's executive director, Carl Siciliano, said in a statement, "We are overwhelmed with gratitude that Bea saw that Lgbt youth deserve as much love and support as any other young person, and that she placed so much value in the work we do to protect them, and to help them rebuild their lives."
The center plans to purchase a new building to house 12 additional youths with the funds bequeathed by Bea Arthur, and name it in her honor.
"We work with hundreds of young people who are rejected by their families because of who they are," Siciliano said.
In fact, the center works with over 1,000 young people a year,

Editor’s Note: this article originally appeared at EightMillionStories.com on April 24th.
Jersey City native Allan Arkush has enjoyed a prolific career in television, currently producing and directing for the hit series “Heroes.”
He started in show business at Bill Graham’s legendary Fillmore East concert theater in New York City, then worked for the equally legendary low-budget movie producer Roger Corman. 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of Arkush’s solo directorial debut, the beloved cult classic Rock ‘n Roll High School.
I met with Arkush in his home office in West Los Angeles, and tried to keep from drooling all over his killer record collection.
Did you go to Springsteen last night? I thought he was amazing.
Allan Arkush: He really was. I thought it was interesting that he started out with some fairly dark songs: “Badlands,

Establishing himself as the finest actor of his generation through various kinds of movies over the span of three decades, Tom Hanks has collected numerous nominations for coveted awards and nailed back-to-back Oscars' Best Actor. This Hollywood actor also proves to be a gold digger at the box office as he is listed #3 among the highest grossing actors of all time.
California-born Hanks made his break in the entertainment industry as a cross dresser advertising executive in short-lived cult sitcom "Bosom Buddies" before branching out to the big screen and demonstrating his versatility. This is hardly movie news, but it involves one major movie star applauding another major movie star and in quite the unconventional and foul-mouthed way as PopEater has debuted video of the much talked about speech at last night's Film Society of Lincoln Center 36th Gala Tribute to Tom Hanks at Alice Tully Hall.
I have attached the transcript directly below the video so you can read along if you miss a line or two... and if you are at work, Beware, it is filled with profanity.
"All right, it's late and I'm paying my babysitter overtime and I have to pee, so ... everybody f**king likes you. All my bits are gone. Listen, I had lunch today with Rita [Wilson], and her tits were here and her waist was here and her ass was all that [she was referring to something said in an earlier speech]. So, what can I tell you that's new?

Tom Hanks friends, colleagues, and co-stars Julia Roberts, Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, Charlize Theron and Bruce Springsteen came to New York Monday night to honor Tom Hanks with the Film Society's 36th Annual Gala Tribute at Lincoln Center's newly renovated Alice Tully Hall. The stars also opened up about the recent passing of "Golden Girls" star Bea Arthur. "Besides the fact that I'm a massive fan I feel like I got interested in acting because of him and watching his work," Charlize Theron tells "The Insider" about Tom. "Getting the chance to work with him and getting to know him a little bit made me realize that there's something about him that is so genuine and sweet, and just sincere. Makes you realize the nice guy does end up on top." The Hollywood stars presented a variety of clips, anecdotes and accolades to the two-time Oscar winner, whose celebrated career

Tom Hanks has been selected to flip the switch this summer on the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, designed to recreate the dawn of the universe.
The Collider malfunctioned last September because of a bad electical connection, casing about $28 million in damage to the machine. While touring the facility in February, Hanks was asked if we would like to take part in the big scientific experiment, and he gladly accepted.
But what does a particle smasher have to do with Tom Hanks? It turns out that in Angels & Demons, Hanks's character, Robert Langdon, is on the trail of a plot to destory the Vatican that hinges on antimatter stolen from the Cern, where the Large Hadron Collider is housed. Though it looks scary, there are no giant frickin' laser beams
Reports The Telegraph of the device's incredible power, "There is also a possibility of tiny black holes being created in the Collider.
