  • Continuity: When Mina is running along the beach heading for the soon-to-be shipwreck, there's a blinding rain storm and it's dark as pitch, yet it's light, and her hair is still very curly and bouncy as she runs into the cave.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Harker is driving away from Dracula's castle after having Dracula sign the deed papers, Renfield jumps him from the back of his car. During the scenes of struggle, there's a from-the-front shot that clearly shows another car loaded with people (crew?) about a hundred feet or so behind the Harker car.

  • Revealing mistakes: A common problem with many vampire movies is repeated here: the bite marks on the ladies' necks are placed in such a way that the vampire's teeth would have to be one behind the other, not along side each other. The placement of the bites would have Dracula performing a serious contortionist act to get his teeth into the willing victims.

  • Revealing mistakes: Obvious stunt double when Dracula kills Van Helsing with a stake.

  • Continuity: When Dracula comes to Mina's room, she moves her hair and offers him the right side of her neck. Yet when she is found dead the next morning, the fang marks are on her left side.

  • Anachronisms: Just before dancing with Dracula, Lucy flips over the record on the player and sets it playing again. The record is moving around at a leisurely pace; however, the earliest disc recordings played at around 78 RPM - a much faster speed. Records playable at lower rates were much later inventions.

  • Continuity: After the vampire woman jumps through the window, Annie chases her down the corridor. Approaching the window (from her POV) we can see that the central part of the broken frame is dangling, and swinging from side to side. The view switches to outside the window (looking into the building), and the broken frame is suddenly no longer swinging.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Dracula transforms into a bat and attacks Renfield in Carfax, he falls backwards, rolls over a crate and down the stairs, colliding with the "stone" balustrade as he falls (and causing it to wobble).

  • Plot holes: When Dr. Seward, Harker and Renfield are on the beach examining the shipwreck, Dr. Seward asks if Renfield would be so kind as to invite Dracula to dinner at his home, but later when Renfield is carrying the boxes up the stairs at Carfax Abbey, Dracula appears at the top of the stairs, turns into a bat and attacks Renfield who falls down the stairs. Dracula arrives for dinner never having been given the invitation by Renfield.

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: SPOILER: The scene when the police are examining the shipwreck, the madman (cockroach eater) looks at the captain who has had his throat ripped off. You can see the dead captains breath vapors in the cold air.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Van Helsing is preparing to render Dracula's crate of soil unusable to the vampire, he is shown breaking a single holy wafer into quarters. When he places them into the soil in the next shot, he actually inserts five quarters, not four.

  • Plot holes: SPOILER: When Mina's vampirised body is exhumed, it is daytime, but she is unharmed by the sunlight (whereas Dracula is burned on both occasions he is exposed to it).
