Low-budget filmmakers often regurgitate plotlines to make a buck or two on whatever's hot. Look at the 1974 blaxploitation flick Abby (a blatant Exorcist rip-off) or the recent Transmorphers (which needs no further clarification). Unless it's a sanctioned remake, they rarely cite their source material… and even when they're blatant about it, the casual moviegoer can pick up on what The DaVinci Treasure is trying to cash in on. Let's face it, most of these folks aren't claiming to be innovative.
But what happens when they do claim to be original? On top of that, what happens when the tables are turned and Hollywood rips off lesser-known (or simply outdated) features? It doesn't just happen… it happens all the time – especially in genre films.
Just because their names are Ridley Scott, Michael Bay, and Sam Raimi doesn't mean they shouldn't cite their source material. "Homages" my adorable butt. These are rip-offs,

This past weekend, Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust), Lamberto Bava (Demons 1-2) and Sergio Stivaletti took part in the first ever "Masters Of Italian Horror" panel at the Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors in Secaucus, Nj. During the discussion, Deodato was asked about the status of his proposed Cannibal Holocaust sequel simply titled Cannibals (or as Deodato referred to it "Cannibal Metropolitan"). (See original post Here!) He told the Fango audience that the script was complete and that shooting was scheduled to begin in September of this year. However, he confessed to us that the producer wanted him to change one thing from the script, and Deodato doesn't want to compromise. So, shooting won't begin until he can resolve this one discrepancy with the producer of Cannibals. He joked, "Hopefully... I win!"
Meanwhile, an audience member asked Lamberto Bava if anyone's asked him about remaking Demons yet. Bava replied that he's "sick

Back in early 2007, there were several reports about a proposed "Masters Of Italian Horror" series. Not a television series however, but instead a series of 4 films, each helmed by a different Italian horror director. Umberto Lenzi, Lamberto Bava, Sergio Martino and Nicola Rondolino were all attached but then, no word since that original announcement.
This past weekend, Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust), Lamberto Bava (Demons 1-2) and Sergio Stivaletti took part in the first ever "Masters Of Italian Horror" panel at the Fangoria Weekend Of Horror's in Secaucus, Nj. During the panel discussion, the status of the 4-movie series came up, and Bava said that he still intends on producing the films.
However, helming each of the 4 movies will now be Ruggero Deodato, Lamberto Bava, Sergio Stivaletti and the Manetti Brothers (Antonio & Marco). Bava told the audience that he hopes they can bring back the sensabilities of the "80's Italian horror cinema" but modernize it.

Can you imagine if Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust was in 3-d? It was announced last night that Demian Lichtenstein (3000 Miles to Graceland) is set to direct 3-d action feature Relentless for Baldwin Entertainment. The $25 million movie will star Kiwi actor Karl Urban. It will shoot this September in Puerto Rico, produced by Eric Mitchell. Its the story of four extreme sports professionals who survive a plane crash in the Amazon jungle, and must use all their survival instincts as they are hunted by a group of homicidal natives. I can only hope that these natives are thirsting for some human flesh, if not... we won't cover this any more (wink).
