Trivia:
Near the end of the movie, Cheech says "We're gonna be bigger than Ruben & The Jets." This could be a reference to a doo-wop parody album recorded by Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention called "Cruising with Ruben & The Jets." Reportedly, the cover of the album confused many DJ's, and they thought Ruben & The Jets was the name of the band. Most likely, though, it was a reference to the (real) doo-wop band by the same name who formed after Zappa's album was released. They asked for his permission to use his fictitious band name, and not only did he agree, he produced the first album. Ruben and the Jets' singer, Ruben Guevara, appears in the film as Tom, one of the horn players in Cheech & Chong's band. more
Goofs:
Continuity: After Cheech picks up Chong at the beginning, Cheech's ring disappears and reappears and Tommy Chong's bandana shifts position on his head between shots. more
Quotes:
[stoned cop walks up to the van, where Pedro and Man have been trying to switch who's driving]
Cop: What do you guys want?
Pedro: Nothing.
Cop: Hey, do you mind if I have a, bite of your hot dog?
Pedro: Huh? No man, here, take the whole thing.
[the cop takes a huge bite]
Pedro: Want some fritos?
Cop: [through a mouthful of hot dog] no, this is fine! Thank you! Hey, you fellas have a nice day, okay?
Man Stoner: Hey man, what was that dude's trip? I mean what was he on, man?
Pedro: Man, I don't know but I wish we had some of it!

Unless you hate cannabis-comedies, you should enjoy it., 26 October 2002

This movie isn't so bad. I've heard from plenty of people that it's stupid, has no plot and is a waste of time. The no plot part I can't defend, because it's mostly Cheech & Chong either smoking weed, or looking for weed. It's no Oscar-winning movie but it's still pretty funny.

I usually enjoy drug-comedies because it's so funny to watch people acting high, because they're acting goofy. And that's funny. Everyone who likes modern drug-comedies ("How High", "Friday" etc.) enjoyed this movie. So if you enjoy the modern stoner movies, no reason you won't love the original.

*** out of *****.

Rated R for drug humor, profanity and sexuality.
