It seems Cal-Am pictures had high hopes for Lane Caudell, not only creating a star vehicle for him, but one that allowed him to perform a number of songs he personally wrote as well. Added to the fact that simultaneously MCA released a soundtrack. Well, since you are probably saying "I've never heard of Lane Caudell", I think we can safely conclude how the movie AND the soundtrack did on release!
Upon seeing the movie, it's pretty clear why Caudell didn't go on to do much more after this movie. Though not a terrible actor, he's way too laid back to make much of an impression. You could say the same for the movie - it's so light, so lacking in any kind of grit, that there's nothing to distinguish it from other struggling-rock-band movies. In fact, it plays more like a TV movie from the period than a big screen film. As for the songs, they are of the light-generic rock vein, and it's actually pretty hard to differentiate one song from another when you think back.
Of interest only as a curio, being much different in genre (and tone) from the typical drive-in product of the day.
